how to install aftermarket head unit

i couldn't find anything about this on any of the threads, maybe i'm just not looking hard enough, but i was wondering how you mount an aftermarket head unit into the dash. the place i bought my head unit from doesn't carry a mounting kit for it. does anyone know of a place that does sell them? thanks.

Sup Mike..I remember u from a meet a while back, anyways..its pretty easy...u just have to get a universal mounting kit...Best buy has them...then jus find the one that fits best and put it under ur deck...its not hard at all..its pretty easy to figure out all u have to do is find the right size, then put it under ur deck then the brackets will help you line them up..if u need any help let me know..

If you get a DIN unit you most likely won't need a mounting kit. It will go right where the old one went when you remove it. You will have to get someting to replace the empty DIN spot below the radio though. There is an OEM slot part for that. Don't have the number handy though

Noooo, the other DIN slot is for guages. Or maybe your radar detector.

you mean like this?

I've got both OEM guage packs:

I've seen people put the stereo up in the pod too, that's also a DIN slot.

Some info here on how to get the radio out:

Those are the factory guages? Looks good. Maybe I'll change my head unit after all.

They are factory, the compass pack in the pod and the performance pack above the radio but I have to say I got them for a very good price. For what you get with the performance pack I'd go aftermarket instead.

install pics and manual scans here:

At one time it was costly (~250 not including pod housing) now I think they are getting rid of them for like 50 or 75 bucks at the dealer. Check around I know Jamie was selling them cheap.

nevermind... no need for any aftermarket kits at all. i don't know if the previous generation has them, but the gd stock head unit is mounted with two metal brackets. any aftermarket head unit can mount into the braket. i should have tried taking out the deck before i posted a question. thanks for all the input tho.
