How about rear deck speakers?
#2
I was looking at that the other day. It looks like it has the holes and everything for larger rear deck speakers. I don't know if the screw holes will line up though. The only problem is if you put any subs in your trunk it would vibrate the rear speakers and sound really bad.

I just put in rear deck speakers. It was easier than trying to run new speaker wire to the rear doors.
I am running Kenwood Excelon Dual Mags in the rear deck. It actually wasn't that difficult. I used a 4-1/2" hole saw. Since the holes don't exactly line up with the ridge on the rear deck, you can't just drill through the bottom, or else the speakers will hit the ridge and not sit flat. The way I did it was figure out where the speakers would fit, then I used the hole saw to score the plastic on the rear deck. After scoring the plastic, it is pretty easy to just punch it out.
Using the speaker template, I punched holes where the screws needed to go. I then just used tinnerman nuts and screwed the speakers down.
I am running the front and rear deck speakers off of my amp. I actually left the stock speakers in the rear doors and am running them off of the head unit.
I don't have an incredible system. Just running Kenwood Excelon separates in front, the rear deck speakers, the stock rear door speakers and a 10" Xtant sub. It sounds really good and doesn't rattle at all.

I don't really know. I have a sub in the trunk and the speakers are running with the high pass filter on, so they produce very little bass anyway. The trunk airspace may help with bass response, but I think it's too large a space for the little 5-1/4" drivers in the rear deck.

I just put some Kenwood eXceleron 6 1/2" in the rear deck, While I was back there I removed the 3rd brake light (have one in spoiler)
I put the speakers in some fiberglass cups/pods. Not happy yet with the sound out of them. I am going to take the pods off and see how they sound "free air". I am planning to put a 15" HX2 in the spare tire well. I think that the pods will protect the rear deck set from over exursion. I may try to cut about a 2"hole it the front (out of sight)
I will probably get around to playing a little more this weekend.
As for the install, it was very simple. I removed the back seats, and rear deck. I had my way with the steel rear deck itself to allow more airflow between the cabin and trunk.
The rear "dash" had a few holes hacked into it, then covered with chicken wire (for ridgidity) then black sub box carpet.

I just slapped in 6.5 's speakers in the front and rear doors. Both speakers needed some modification of the doors in order to fit. But well worth it. I have decided to run a single 10" JL audio W6 for bass instead of cutting my rear deck for 6x9. The stock speakers are pitiful. They had to go.

the rear deck will be used....
Spoke to my custom shop... gonna get a pair of 6" subs (didn't know there was such a thing, but whatever...) installed in the rear deck with some very modest boxes installed under them in the trunk.
I'm excited cuz I'm not losing as much useable trunk space as I would with a 10" rolling around the floor. Price with subs and labor... a modest $500 - not bad for a custom box, I think. Prob. get this done early summer and pics will follow.
As for the rear door speakers... I'm taking them out and installing 30lbs weights in each door, or something else just as useless as those speakers and their location.
