Help with putting in door speakers
Hey, I just got some Diamond M3 speakers for my doors. I have a 02 RS. I am putting in the 5 1/4" in the front, and 4" in the back. I need help in how to put them in the doors. I do not know alot about door speakers. But when i get the factory speakers out, the new one will not fit the screw pattern of the old one. what can i put in so that i will have something to screw in the old holes, but long enough to hold screw in the new speakers? Some what i am asking is how do i mount the new speakers?

You should search this forum. There is an extraordinary amount of data already written on this. You will need to make spacers first & foremost as the depth of the door is slight.

you have to make sure the window will clear the speaker when you roll the window all the way down.you will need a spacer.if the holes do not line up just make new ones.go to a hardware store and get some self tapping screws and a pilot pit that is a drill bit a little smaller than the screw you are useing.scoobymods.com should have step by step pictures

they are just peices of mdf wood or plastic rings.. whatever works for you.. they just increase your mounting depth so your speakers will fit in your door. all subaru's need spacers to aftermarket speakers. you should go search this forum.. theres this one with all the pictures and descriptions..

Thank you
In addition to the above, the spacer not only spaces the speaker out from the door for clearance, it provides a mounting surface and seal all the way around the back of the speaker to the door panel.

I just recently put in new front 6.5" speakers. Got the spacers from East Coast Scooby.
On my first install attempt, the speaker drivers did not clear the window. So I added a big washer under each spacer screw. That worked, and fixed the clearance issue. But after I reinstalled the door trim and cranked up the volume, there was buzzing because the speaker cones were vibrating on the door trim.
Round two. Removed the washers from the spacer screws, and instead added two washers under the lower-front bolt. That pushed out the window rails by about 6mm, so the clearance is okay both front and back. Trim back on, no more buzzing! Sounds great!
