Cigarette Lighter in Trunk
i think is might be a really stupid question, but has anybody tried installing a cigarette lighter plug in their trunk? If so, is the trunk light an ok source for power or am i asking for a blown fuse each time i use the cigarette lighter? I'm mainly trying to power an IPOD and possibly one of those little refrigerators.
sorry if this question's covered elsewhere. i looked for 30 minutes without finding anything else. thanks for the advice!

yeah, you will blow circuits if you just use an existing one.
if you have a full blown stereo system or is planning on installing one, just add an extra circuit back there with the 4 or 2 gauge cable you SHOULD HAVE installed for the amps...
okay... the iPod wont take that much juice, but that little fridge might...

BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAINST that... might just tap into the wrong circuit and say like the fuel pump, and while driving, you can blow it... bad thing...
for like $15, buy a setup from walmart. it has a cig lighter port and a slighty heavy gauge, like 12 guage, wiring that like 14 feet long.
keep that in the rear and run the wire along the edge and go through rubber grommet above the clutch pedal and out through the engine compartment and to the battery.
that is the simple BUT RIGHT WAy to do it...

a little of both. i don't need a hard wire to my ipod, but something too temporary and visible (like an extension cord) draws a lot of attention to my ipod in my console which, in a city like LA, is asking for some looting.
I tried wiring it myself today and i think the low budget solution to this is to tap into the fuse panel and just tuck the whole plug up under the dash somewhere. then, when i don't need the power, i'll just tuck the plug under my seat.
