BestBuy, CircuitCity or DIY
I'm thinking of upgrading the sound system in my 04 WRX Wagon this winter. I'm tempted to install front 6.5 speakers, Brown Bread on the doors, an Infinity Basslink and maybe a new head unit
Circuit City & BestBuy both charge about 35 bucks to install a set of front speakers. Should I attempt this myself, or just give them the 35 bucks and be done with it?
I have no car stereo install experience, but I'm very mechanical and have done of ton of work on motorcycles, including electrical wiring. Is rigging a Basslink or some front speakers difficult, and can the folks at chains handle this kind of work?

dont take it to Bestbuy. my friend got his stuff done at bestybuy and then 3 days later everything was "magically stolen" from his car. he was my roommate at the time and we lived in a low crime area AND our cars were parked in a hidden parking lot. thats no coincidence. Best buy installers are shady.

I am pretty sure I have tools and I now have a place with a garage, so working on it in December shouldn't be a prob. I thought that the 35 was a good price, but as you guys mentioned, they don't tell you about hidden wiring costs, which were very expensive. I know there are differences in wiring, but an estimate of 100 bucks for the wire for an amp & sub seems high to me, esp when they are selling amps for 85 bucks.

From what i've seen, the only benifit to paying someone else to do it for you, is you have someone to complain too when something goes wrong. I still think it's better to do stuff yourself. Even if you mess it up on the first try, you learn a lot more about that paricular field than letting someone else doing it. Maybe it's a time vs. convinience issue. I'd prefer to DIY.

yeah, diy.....but.....with the wrx's, you have to remeber that the speaker hole is a shallow app. if you use a speaker with a deep magnet, it will hit the mirror. I have MB quart components in my fronts and rears. I had to make a spacer for the front doors.
