battery backup on stock alarm?

No, it doesn't. Theoretically it's possible, but you'd need to use a rechargeable battery with a circuit to keep it charged while isolating it so it doesn't try to power anything other than the alarm. Aftermarket alarms with backup batteries have this built in.

DEI sells a backup siren with a builtin, self-recharging backup battery. I've been thinking of getting one.

I don't know for a fact, but I figure it works by triggering off the actual alarm horn circuit and runs straight from battery power until that power is cut. Since its not on alarm-only power it can recharge from the battery as needed

Ebay link NG?
I don't think that siren will work on the factory alarm since the horn output is pulsed rather than constant. The alarm does not have a "grounded when triggered" output to drive a standard siren.

Sounds like a good system to me.

Ok, well as long as you don't mind that the siren will operate that way, it will serve it's purpose. If you wanted or expected it to sound like a regular siren when the alarm is powered normally, that's another story.
