AM radio reception poor with new radio
Just replaced OEM cd/radio in 04 Forester with aftermarket Sony radio/cassette and CD changer in back. Now the AM reception is very poor. I know the Sony is OK because I can get good AM by attaching an external antenna. Why would FM reception be OK but AM poor?
I tried disconnecting the OEM antenna plug from the radio and running a wire directly to the rear window antenna, but AM reception still poor. Have no more ideas, except to put the OEM unit back in.

I used a Crutchfield harness adaptor that plugged right into the Subaru radio plug. The Sony does have an antenna power wire that I did not connect - but isn't that for a retractable power antenna? In any case, there is no connection for it on the Subaru harness.

hook up the power antenna wire on the head unit to pin 14(white wire) on the harness
