Alpine iPod head unit
I think Alpine is the first to integrate iPod controls into a head unit... has anyone seen an installation yet? I want to know how well it works.

Does anyone know if any other manufacturers plan on putting out an iPod compatible system?

I dont think its available yet. It looks very cool though. The only thing I think would be better would be a unit that has an In-dash docking station, it would have to be double din. But Alpine already has an in-dash add in hardrive. But I think it would rock to put your Ipod in your dash much like a floppy disk into a drive and have it play that way. It would make for a cleaner install.

Dell DJ...
I got a Dell "Digital Jukebox". $200 for a 15GB. I went to Wal-Mart and got the Belkin Tune-Cast for $20. Plug that in and tune your radio to the right station. Works great and can be used in any car or for any radio.
They also have the cup-holder mount just like the iPod.
I currently have 673 songs in it and still have 11.8GB free!

i don't think it recharges the ipod.
i like the idea of not having to buy a different mp3 player for my car. my ipod can now serve as my home, work and car audio solution... nothing beats that!

ipod battery is covered by warranty longer now .. if you worry, get extended warranty .. probably a lot of the issues are caused by user lack of care.

I heard about some other decks that have infared sensors built in. Not sure if it was just ipod, other mp3 players, or both that send an infared signal, but in my opinion that would be the easiest.

If you can't wait for the Alpine HU's there are other alternatives...
Have any of you guys seen the Denison ICE-Link? Basically it'll allow you to control your IPOD through your HU. Through your HU you have control for volume, next track, and previous track. If you switch to a different source like the radio, it will pause the IPOD so that it picks up where you left off when you switch back. I think you still have to manually select your playlists on your ipod.
Only thing is that you have to sacrafice cd changer controller capabilities since it used the cd changer port on your HU. Guess it's not too bad since you'll have more music on your ipod than you ever will with a CD changer.
They have applications for aftermarket hu's and factory equipment radios w/ cd changer controls.
