Final thoughts on the FM modulator.
Its in and working just fine. With the factory speakers the sound quality is as good as a CD. The ONLY thing that didn't turn out smooth about the whole deal was that I have to turn the volume up about 4 positions higher when running the modulator/iPod Mini than with CD/Radio. Other than that, the install is completely stealth, sounds good, and was well under $100. My only problem now is figguring out which artists to use my 4 gigs on

Thanks flat broke!
I have been searching a way to connect an mp3 player to the stock radio on my new subaru legacy 05. I thought the transmitter and modulator were both the same thing. Now I understand the difference between them. I am not comfortable taking my console apart in my car so I am gonna let a shop install the modulator (if there is detailed instructions somewhere for a 05 subaru legacy, I might try it myself). Thanks again. I'll go take all my CDs out of my car now!

Legacy05,
Here is the link to the PDF that Subaruparts.com has for their subwoofer install ( shows how to open the console etc) for 2001+ legacys. I don't know if the 05 is the same, but it might point you in the right direction. So long as you can get the console/pannels out, you shouldn't have much of a problem with it.

Good luck,

I called good guys earlier this afternoon and asked what kind of fm modulators they use and they suggest using the audiovox FMM100. They tell me that it is used a lot for when they install dvd players and when the hu does not have an aux connection. Also, it shuts off your antenna when you use the unit that is plugged into it. Which means you won't get any interference from stations around your area. Sounds promising already!
I hope I don't scratch my center console (i'll use rubber spatculas too) trying!

I believe the farenheit unit that I have does the same thing. The goodguys near me had both and the farenheit unit was a little less bulky so thats the route I went. If they're installers have good experience with the audiovox one though, I wouldn't hesitate to use it so long as the price isn't a lot more than $39.99.

I am very sad today. I got the Zen a few days ago and I made an appointment to get an FM Modulator installed into my Subaru Legacy 05 and when I got back into my office waiting for the install to be finished, the install tech called and told me that Subaru must have changed there antenna connections. All of the antenna adapters they had would not fit and he told me that it was something he has not seen yet (hes been doing this for like 6 years). I checked every where online to see if there was a new antenna adapter for the Subaru 05's and nothin!
If anyone can help me or point me into the direction where I can get an adapter for the antenna, please let me know!
Just one note, the install tech did say he could splice into the antenna to get it to work. But I just don't want it to get to that, if I ever need to bring the car into the Subaru shop, I don't need them telling me that my warranty has been voided because I did something I should have not!

That sucks... I wonder why there is a different antena plug on the legacy than the WRX? My MY05 WRX has the regular ol' antena plug.
Try calling good guys, Tweeters, and Al and Eds. They are larger retail chains that have decent install departments and might have what you need. In the mean time, I'll put the word out to a couple folks in the biz and see what they can come up with.

Okay,
Email timluby@metra-autosound.com. He is the western region sales rep for Metra. They make a ton of adapters etc for the aftermarket car audio community.
Their website is www.metraonline.com and if you look under the contact tab, you can also call their customer support. Their website is only current up to 03 models, but my inside sales rep at Tweeter said that they would be a good place to check via phone or email.
Next would be American International. They are another adapter company. They're phone number is 800-336-6500. Web address is http://www.americaninternational.net/
One of these two should have it. Then your installer can just order it from them.
Hope that helps,
Chris

Hey, right on Chris for all the help. I actually went to Circuit City to get this installed and that is the place that did not have it. I also checked with Good Guys and they didn't have the part either. I will check with one of the links you provided. I'll let ya know what happens.

No problem. If you can't get the adapter check on another thread I'm about to post that will cure this and many other suby audio expansion problems....
Good luck,
Chris
