PLEASE HELP!

I was wondering if anyone knows how the stock subwoofer/amplifier is connected to the stock radio?

I am looking to replace the dash radio with a sony dash radio/cd player and I was told that I might lose the subwoofer/amplifier depending on how its connected.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The factory sub is connected externally by a bridging harness that connects in line with the existing radio harness and taps the rear speaker outputs for signal to the sub. It will continue to work with any aftermarket headunit that has an internal amp as long as you just disconnect the plug from the factory unit and connect it to your new one, via the proper adapter harness. It will not work if you install a headunit that is preamp-only.
I have an Alpine HU with the factory sub and it works just fine.

 

Thanx to everyone for their input. I was able to install a sony headunit along with a cd changer and not lose the subwoofer/amp.
