04 STi speaker question
Hello everyone
I'v been reading this forum and getting more and more confused.
I am dying to order speakers and have to get some facts cleared up. so PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
1. I know the car is pre-wired for speakers. Are there seperate wires in front door panel for tweeters? or am I suppose to put in my own crossover for tweeter?
2. Subaru offers a mirror mounted tweeter kit for WRX. Does anyone know if that could fit on STi? Also, does that kit come with tweeters or just the mounting pieces?
3. I understand most 6 1/2" speakers need spacers to clear door glass. But with a 3/4" spacer, do you guys have any problem putting the door panel back on?
4. There seem to be a grill for tweeters on front door panel? Is that where tweeters were suppose to go?
5. 5 1/4" speakers can fit in rear door. Any clearing issues?
6. Stock subwoofer installation. Do I need to remove the passenger seat to install it? if so, how?
Someone please help me!!! Many thanks in advance!!!

I figured I better answer on here incase others read this thread:
1. I know the car is pre-wired for speakers. Are there seperate wires in front door panel for tweeters? or am I suppose to put in my own crossover for tweeter?
You would run wires from the stock midbass to your crossover. From there run wires to your tweeter and midbass. Go here for a pretty complete polarity guide:
Wiring Polarity From WWW.IAPERFORMANCE.COM
2. Subaru offers a mirror mounted tweeter kit for WRX. Does anyone know if that could fit on STi? Also, does that kit come with tweeters or just the mounting pieces?
They do not fit right on. They require some modifications to work. I believe the $60 ones do not come with tweeters. They are for the Legacy.
3. I understand most 6 1/2" speakers need spacers to clear door glass. But with a 3/4" spacer, do you guys have any problem putting the door panel back on?
With the right adapter plate anything is possible Yet another PDF file for you to check out. It gives specific dimensions.
6.5" Speaker Application Guide For 02-04 Imprezas
4. There seem to be a grill for tweeters on front door panel? Is that where tweeters were suppose to go?
Yup, all you need are brackets to fit your aftermarket tweeters. found on iaperformance.com. CNC laser cut aluminum.
5. 5 1/4" speakers can fit in rear door. Any clearing issues?
"Rears
The rear doors are not as severely limited to depth as the fronts are, but they are limited to cutout diameters. Considerable design time was taken in order to avoid cutting of the metal door panel. In the end we've developed rear adapters for 4" and 5.25" speakers that do not require any metal cutting when within stated specifications.* These are suggested for mid-bass drivers and/or coax speakers that have a near flush mounted tweeter since the room between the speaker and the plastic door skin is tight. Infinity Kappa 5.25" and Infinity Reference 5002i 5.25" speakers do not fit the rear door application without dremel work. These Infinity speakers are coax, and their basket is non-standard"
6. Stock subwoofer installation. Do I need to remove the passenger seat to install it? if so, how?
Removal is needed. 14mm socket and rachet will accomplish this. 4 bolts, 2 front and 2 rear.

Additions
A few small addition
There are wires in front door for tweeters and additional crossover is not required.
Sony Xplode 5 1/4" 2 way speaker XS-W1321 do NOT fit in rear door either, because the tweeter sticks out too much.
You actually do not have to remove passenger seat to install OEM sub. Removal of only ONE bolt is required. Moving the seat all the way forward would give you enough room to access underearth.

I think he meant tweeter wires for aftermarket tweeters. If you do not use the crossover that comes with your components you will be running your tweeter full range and that should last all of 1 day before blowing. The stock tweeter has a capacitor on the back side of it to filter out bass.
