Subaru At The Gap?
What a day I just had. My arms feel tired and my head aches from the heat. I spent most of the day at a place called Deals Gap, more commonly referred to as " The Dragon ". This beast is 318 curves in an 11 mile stretch of US 129. I have never had a better time in my life. I raced through the Dragon at dangerous speeds with my 2.5 RS without a care in the world. My brakes NEVER over heated and my heart NEVER stopped racing.
All was truly right with the world.
And then....IT happened.
I stopped into a gift shop at the tail of the Dragon to claim my trophies for a successful run when I was struck by the most hideous sight I had ever layed these eyes upon. MAZDA had planted their flag in my beloved Dragon long before I had slain her myself. My victory lost all taste and my stomach nearly lost all of it's contents. There, printed on a T-Shirt was
"MIATAS AT THE GAP".
I was appalled. I was sickened. I was horrified and mortified to know that Mazda held claim over this beautiful piece of road that a Subaru could scorch with ease. It wasn't that Miatas were better at the gap...Oh No. It was simply that they were organized enough to get together there in their fruity little convertibles and then have cool looking shirts printed up to rub it in the face of any other driving enthusiast who might come along feeling good about himself for whipping the Dragon's ****!!!
So I put it into your hands, my fellow Impreza owners. Are we to allow motorcycles and Miatas to feast upon the Dragon all by themselves? OR are we to organize our own troops and have a " Subarus at the Gap" ? True it sounds like we are taking a trip to a clothing store so a better name is needed. I have no problems talking to local dealers here in Knoxville and the surrounding areas to see if they would be interested in sponsoring such an expedition but they will want plenty of participation before they commit their names to anything.

Riding the Dragon
Tail of the Dragon is a bad *** place, I was hoping to make the trip up there this summer and it would be great to get a subaru outing to go up there with, the only problem being that there will be more cops
if they know we are coming, as they knew about the mazda event
and increased their patrols of the area greatly. So yeah, its a great idea, i hope more people are up for it, let's see if we can get this goin (and not have the authorities find out )

I just went through again today...My God, I'm addicted. For the first time, I saw a WRX and a WRX STI having a go at the Dragon. Amid 4 million Miatas gathering there today I had a great time. Oddly enough though, there was NO sign of authorities. It would seem that responsibility is left up to the one who would dare to run through the gap.
I believe this;
The police know what a dangerous stretch of road US129 is. But like the Atlanta Bypass, there isn't to many places that a cruiser can pull you over safely. Your safety is in your hands.
By the way, a guy I talked to today who was scorching the road in an S2000 was a cop. He says they won't spoil our fun as long as we don't set fire to the forest.

We definately need to get something going and organized and get some shirts.. But, definately try to keep it without authorites knowing.
I went up last weekend and saw 2 troopers. One was on a bike and the other in a marked car. tailofthedragon.com says that law is heavy on the weekends.
I may head up there tomorrow though.

Ummm, If you didn't already know....there are 2 Subaru meets at the Dragon every year. The main meet is in May and had over 100 Subaru's in attendance this year. The secondary meet is usually in September, however it looks like it will be the first weekend in October this year, check the link to the Nasioc forums for details.
We have been doing this twice yearly for 3 years now!

Why would we want someone else to make shirts and profit from our meet? Hmmm, oh because shirts make a meet cool , please.
Oh and 3 years and your just getting into it? Wow, you sure are a newbie to the Subaru enthusiast community. You probably think the WRX is the first car Subaru ever sold in the U.S.

It's nice to know that Subarus...at least a select few that don't like to share info with the largest Subaru Club site on the net..DO get together at the gap. From the smug missives, I'm kinda glad I missed those gatherings.
Still, it's not the spelling that needs checked, it's the reading comprehension. YOUR MISSING THE POINT TO MY ORIGINAL POST!!
It's all about cohesiveness...about getting together and having a good time. It's not about a competition to see who knows more about the History of the almighty Subaru or even who has the best Subaru. It's about i-club doing more than group buys and sharing car info. It's about taking up those boring weekends with something cool to do.
You just don't get it, do you?
I'm addicted to the Dragon....and I hate seeing the Miatas laying claim to my kill.
Rather than let us go on and on about how we would like to get something going while all along you knew of something going on...why be a shmuck? Just post a reply like a fellow Subaru brother and invite us along! OR...just post a reply and then come along with us for a SOUTHEAST meet at the gap.
Why be a jerk?
