I'm in Ft Walton Beach / Hurlburt Field. I just traded in my MY02 Aspen White WRX 3 weeks ago for a MY04 WRX. (Lee Subaru) I have seen my old wrx running around on base and have tried to get his attention but I was always going the opposite way. If any of you in this area knows who bought it, let me know. Paid 10,000$ down on the car, started having problems, and only kept it for 1 month! I found out it had some flood/high water damage from Ivan, (nothing major, but it was enough to severely rust all 4 rotors and the entire underside of the car and entire exhaust.) Nothing idicated this on the carfax report, its just what myself and 3 subaru mechanics are assuming. Also, there is some MAJOR tranny problems with that car. I had to put 3 qts of synchromesh in the tranny to get it in 1st PERIOD! There is also was a problem with it grinding going into 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. I took it in to have the 46k mile service done, and the subaru mechs said every bolt on the front of the engine was stripped out to the point that they would have to be tapped out to remove them! They said someone had done some major engine work to that car, but there were no noticeable enhancements to the way the car drove. The alarm would constantly stop working too. After paying 75$ for subaru to check it out, they found a short in the back of the instrument panel. 395$ to fix! Don't think so. This is just part of the things that went wrong! In the month I had it, I paid subaru 1786$ in parts and labor not counting the stop tech rotors and metal masher pads I put on it. None of these things were noticeable the first few days i had it. It just seemed like everyday something new went wrong. I told the mechs at subaru about how I had paid the 10 grand down, and they told me they would talk to a salesman and get me a good deal on another one. They ended up giving me 13,000 for mine and I got a silver 2004 with 21,000 miles for 17 out the door. They sold the car the next day knowing good and well the problems I had with it. SO, to make a long story short, if any of you know someone in the Ft. Walton Beach are who just bought a 2002 Aspen White WRX with 17" RSS Arashi wheels and ContiExtremeContact tires, have him post on here. I'll give him all the service records and printouts that Subaru gave me. I work on Hurlburt BTW.
