dunno yet. i'm trying to find a good body shop in the area. if the place isn't on the state farm list, i'll have to get an appraiser out to my car before i can take it to the shop.

well, i dunno if they're going to give me a check, but they said they would need to send someone out to asses the damage if it's not at one of their pre-screened shops.

One extra bit of advice to seri. If at all possible, double check if the parts are genuine parts. Sometimes they try to substitute imitation body parts with shoddier metals and paints for the genuine article because of a cheaper price. They did that to my moms car a while back when we got rear ended. The tail gate started to rust after 6mo.

what they tell you is true.... Basically this is how it works...
They have their own shop network that they deal with, basically this network of shops they give the insurance company a discount on repairs. so they might Quote $5000.00 on paper but the insurance company gets billed for 3,000.00.
They want you to take it to their half *** shops so they can save some money and do short cuts.
Part of California Law you have the right to take your car to any shop you wish. The procedure is as follows....
1. pick a shop get an estimate of cost. the estimated cost is not exactly the total because its subjective to tear down.
2. You report this to the insurance company claims team and they will give you a check either the full amount or 90% of what they thing the total estimate should cost. At this point in time you can leave your car @ your body shop and tell them this is the insurance company, claim number, and group that is working on the claim.
3. your repair shop begins tear down and they will call them (insurance company) if there are more additions to the original estimate. At this point they will have the adjuster come down to the repair shop and look at the additional stuff they are trying to add. He has no choice but to look at it and OK the repair. They will if your not at fault pay the full amount of what ever the repair shop charges.
The only down side is the time... the insurance adjusters LAG HELLA bad!!!!... but it's worth it if you know that your body shop is the best.
I did this with my past cars over the last 12 years and i have always declined their POS body shop. BTW they pay for the rental too upto i think $35.00 insurace rate a day.
