Take a short trip up to Solvang. It's only a 30-45 minute drive from Santa Barbara. It's a very small and quiet town, and the place has amazing pastries.

Try hotels.com for hotels? Sorry, I have no advice for hotel searching. Have fun on your trip!

Go on a weekday...

Hotel beds are hard to find in SB on the weekend. All of L.A. lives there on the weekend ~ that is why I moved.

PM me your price range and I will tell you what I know!

if you use hotels.com or any other website, try calling the hotel directly to see if they can match or beat the internet price. they may have a better cancellation policy than the websites too. hotels.com charges $25 for a cancellation, even if it's more than 24hrs before the stay.

Montecito Inn ~ Charlie Chaplain's old place. 5 minutes from Butterfly Beach, best beach in SB. It's in Montecito (ritzy suburb of SB) with Lucky's restaurant/bar right next to it... if your so lazy you just want to hang... good food, good people watching on a Friday/Saturday night. This is not a characterless motel/hotel chain, but a cool little place, not a whole lot of people know about.

B-A-D idea! You may not even get a bed @ Motel 6 in the summer. Stick with me, I might be able to help. Gotta take 'mommy' to dinner!

*** Oceana ~ great place with a lot of rooms. Right across the street from the pier and the harbor (with restaurants) and you can walk to State St. with shops/eats/bars and you won't get a DUI walking home ;-) ***

SB was my home for 20 years before I moved up here to the 'Far North' as some yo-yo said!
