Unhappy Man killed, 3 hurt in fiery crash

A 19-year-old driver loses control along Collins Avenue in Orange, and his car bounces off other vehicles before catching fire.

By JOHN McDONALD
The Orange County Register

CITY OF ORANGE A Santa Ana man died, and three other people were injured when he lost control of his car, which spun into oncoming traffic, hit two other vehicles and caught fire, police said today.

Arthur Anthony Estrada, 19, was driving at a high rate of speed eastbound on Collins Avenue at about 9:45 p.m. Monday when he lost control of his 2003 Subaru WRX sedan at the intersection of Wanda Street. His car went airborne, spun into the opposing lane and hit a Toyota Tacoma pickup.

The Subaru continued onto the front lawn of a house on the north side of Collins and struck a Cadillac STS sedan parked in the driveway. The Cadillac was pushed into a block wall.

The Subaru WRX caught fire.

Bystanders pulled Estrada and his passenger from the burning car before police and fire rescue teams arrived.

Estrada and the driver of the Toyota were taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where Estrada was pronounced dead at about 4 a.m.

Estrada’s passenger and a passenger in the Toyota were taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. The identities and medical conditions of the injured were not released by police.

Anybody with information about the crash was asked to call police at (714) 744-7444

My Friend was one of they "Bystanders" that pulled these guys from the wreck, he said he was going about 85 when he hit that bump/ramp on Collins Street, he launched, bottomed out and then started to rotate.

Be safe out there . . .

I believe it was not a racing but showing off / hot lapping his car for his friend who was in the passenger seat.

One of my friend crashed his friend's STI on a local street. He was testing the car and he drove too fast while passing though the rail roads... the fly was in the air and then one of the wheel hit the curve. couple of thousands damage.

that seem to be the common theme to letting your friend drive your sti..
and the solution is .. DON'T let them drive it..
i heard many story of ppl letting their friend drive their sti..
i think the sti have too much power and the AWD becomes unfamilar with FF and FR driver with less HP.
the AWD make it feel like it won't lose control.. but once you do.. bam....
and end up wrecking their car..
horrible story..

yea, people think AWD on our cars will keep them from losin control when they drive it. In the end, they should know if the car's not theirs, they shouldn't push it too hard

I don't know about you guy. When I am driving my "WRX", I usually use two hands because I always feel like my car can easily put to one side If i don't hold my steering tight when I am accelerating fast. Doesn't mean that I can't drive my car though. Well, I guess it's the mod, I need to mod my car... haha.
