if you do the 5 series... things to look out for...
If your getting a 4D make sure the rear seats fold 60/40 split. if you have the solid seat with a ski sack pass through the dealers or I will charge you an extra 2hrs labor if you ever need to do rear shocks on that bad boy.
Replace rear controll arm bushings this always go bad and especially if the car has a gangster lean from parking on the curb they have to go ASAP
but what 5 series specifically are you looking for cause there are quirks depending on if it's a 528 530 535, 540, 545 etc... Auto Stick, Sport no Sport, All weather pkg... Dbl pain rear window glass....???
i can tell u what to look out for on that BMW but i need to know what model and prod date

Things to watch out...
Change the shocks thats a must that car is soooo heavy in the front that it nose dives... if you need performance parts for it go to www.supremepowerparts.com Tell Eric Juan Sent ya...
Ok moving on....
Make sure the guy has the split seats if not LOW BALL HIM ON PRICE!!!
Top strut mounts trash and replace when u do suspenion
rear top shock mounts trash
If you have a clunk in the rear suspension do the thrust arm and trailing arm bushings the 2 big ones.
Check for Clutch chatter, stick the car in 2nd and let the clutch out slow... if you feel a slight shimmy then the flywheel is worn (LOW BALL IN PRICE) if you hear a chatter and a shimmy (U BETTER LOW BALL AT LEAST $1K)
Check for oil lieaks in the upper valve cover gaskets (thats normal) Pull out the spark plugs look for oil around the base (again LOW BALL IF THERE IS) you will need new spark plug seals and v/c gasket.
Listen for a hiss like a vac leak it should be there but not loud if it is then check the lower intake plenum for leaks easy way get some starter fluid and spray around the back of the motor if the engine stalls u got a leak (LOW BALL EVEN MORE)
Other than the seat switches and the right rear window regulator going out on you the car should be in ok condition.
Oh if it's more than 50K in miles change the flex disk aka vibration dampner.
Good luck with it... the car is fun when u fix it up but maintaining it is $$$$ especially if you don't do things ahead of time.

DAMN. that's 24k gold. I really appreciate it! I'm leaning toward the RSTi, but the GF wants something less violent.
I'm about to start my last semester and I've already started looking for work... with all the hiring freezes and whatnot, it's really hard.
I've got experience in solid waste (ab939) and municipal npdes permits...
know anyone thats hiring planners with an environmental background?
I can do excel proformas and crazy *** gis maps too

not in norcal, problem with this industry its all housing related, if the housing market sucks then jobs with cities are hard, since your familiar with NPDES i would say state agency such as EPA, but state budget is limiting you on what you can do.
