Complain about resources on the streets, that cops are slow to respond, whatever, but the people in 911 are doing one of the most stressful jobs out there. Try to have someone screaming at you on one hand, deleiver emergency medical advice, coordinate multiple resources (ambulance, police, helicopters, fire equipment) and backfill those resources so you still retain coverage over your response area..........and then talk.
I used to coordinate air tanker strikes and unit coverage for 3 counties with some of the highest wildfire rates in the country, and I've been on the phones when one of my best friend's mothers called in because his dad was dying of a heart attack, when people I know have been in car accidents, when I've knowingly sent men and women into situation where people die.
Talk ****, but think about what it would be like if they weren't there.

I've called 911 exactly two times.
Once was an accident; Mad Max picked up my cell with his fat fingers on the "9" button.
The other was for real.
My neighbor to the left was having his battery stolen out of his Dodge Dart.
Another neighbor called me, telling me he caught the dirt bag, but needed help in holding him til the cops showed up.
Grabbed my HK USP .45 & both Hell Hounds(Rott/Pit Bull & Rott/Doberman).
The bad guy kept trying to leave w/ the battery, via mountain bike, as we had told him the cops were coming.
After 20 mins, I called 911 and explained that we had called earlier about the bad guy.
The operator was cool, explaining to me that the responding Deputy was at lunch.
I then informed the operator that I was holding the bad guy at gunpoint.
Boy, was that deputy pissed off when he finally showed up...with mustard stains on his shirt...and no one was holding a gun.

Ever notice these companies that do your phone over your cable modem end up being just about the same price as a regular phone bill when it is all said and done? I recently cancelled my home phone service, I hate phones...
