its a nice property but the management sucks. the work is too stressful for the $$$. most of the time its pretty kick back but when **** hits the fan theres no way to get hold of the gm and leaves it on the employees, and then they bug me

I found this bed and breakfast, haven't stayed there since I live here, but it looks nice and the area is nice. It's downtown in the "midtown" area.

The other B&B listed, The Inn and Spa at Parkside featuring Spa Bloom, is located next to South Park and I wouldn't recommend that area. It's a little shady, not as bad as South Sac though.
I usually look for B&B's here:

Good luck and have a safe and happy stay.

Well, you didn't give us a budget, or an idea of where you need to stay, so I'd say downtown. The embassy suites is cool, great location on the river and right next to all the great clubs and restaurants of old town. You could stay at the sheraton or the hyatt (the hyatt is pretty cheap, my dad stayed there last weekend for $119 on Saturday night). Both the sheraton and the hyatt are right next to the capitol and also a bunch of fun night life. Just a couple blocks up is a small row of bars and restaurants by Memorial Auditorium, like mikunis, changs, 33rd bistro, luccas and on 15th/i is a pretty good sushi place right on the corner.
If you're looking for a holiday inn type place, you'll probably pay about what you would at the hyatt, but there are a bunch right off i80 at west el camino and off i5 at the del paso exit (which is just before the 99 split). Choosing between the two I'd take the hotels off Del Paso because they're right next to a taco bell, ihop (I ****ing hate ihop though), sizzler, a place called the malabar (which is iffy and too expensive), a kfc/a&w combo and a shopping center with a safeway, rite aid, panera bread and some other small food places.

teusdays and wednesdays are usually the most busy days so it might be hard to get a reservation this close to the arrival date. luckily i always make a fake reservation for teus/wed incase we get over booked. let me know if you want it. its a double suite w/ 2 rooms, 2 beds, and 2 bathrooms.
