horrible officiating

wow, could the NFL want to see Bettis win one at home or what? the officiating was just completly one sided for the steelers.... I can't believe I wasted my time watching this Superbowl!

The Bus Stops here. I wanted the seahawks to win but they were making horrible plays the second half... almost want to say they didnt deserve to win with the plays they threw away.

edit: which is why they didnt i suppose

Negative. Jerramy Stevens had a drop that easily could have been ruled a fumble, (out of FOUR total on the day) and as all Seahawks fans will have to be reminded for years to come, replays must provide indisputable evidence that a call was wrong before it can be overturned. I am inclined to think Rothlisfhqwgadseberger didn't break the plane of the goal line with the ball, but replay did not *prove* that he didn't, erego touchdown stands. Any other Raider Nation conspiracy theories you'd like to suggest?

I just wanna say that I am a Dolphins fan, so I am being pretty unbiased with my opinions about what happened in this superbowl.

That being said, I think the referees did an atrocious job officiating this Superbowl, and directly influenced the outcome of this game.

Four plays immediately come to mind:

1) The Roethlisberger TD run where he didn't break the plane of the goal-line. The ref started to call Roethlisberger down, but then changed his mind after watching Big Ben crawl forward another couple yards into the endzone. That was not a TD. And how was it not over-turned? Geez.

2) Offensive pass interference against the Seahawks in the endzone that negated a TD. Of all the bad calls, this is the one that I could let slide if this were the only bad call of the game, but that is not the case here.

3) The phantom holding call that took away a nice play that would have given Seattle a 1st down at the 1-yard line. This call was really, REALLY bad.

4) And why the heck was Hasselbeck called for a personal foul for making a tackle?

In recap, I can think of reasons for wanting either team to win. I was really just hoping, for a good, clean, exciting Superbowl and these referees really ruined it for me.

If you watch the view of the camera that is lined up directly on the line of the End Zone, he did, barely, cross the plane. The plane is the FRONT of the white line. He crossed it by about 4 inches.

This wasn't a good call, but you're really not supposed to push off a guy that much, especially not that far out.

There's pretty much always a holding play on long runs like this, it doesn't surprise me.

You can't take a guy down by hitting him below the knees like Hasselbeck did. If you watch the game with sound, the commentators explain a lot of the calls. Even the crazy ones like this.

I'm unbiased too, I'm a Niner's fan. I was rooting for the Seahawks, and I firmly believe that they lost this one on their own, bad play calls in the 2nd half. Trust me, I really didn't want the Steeler's to win. My apartment complex did not quite down until about midnight here(PA).

You can tackle a guy by taking his legs out from under like Hasselback did. The penalty wasn't for tackling, it was for taking out one of his blockers. The replay clearly showed that Hasselback never touched the blocker and only hit the guy with the ball. Both Al and John (the commentators) couldn't figure out why the flag was thrown.

Personally, I did not think the officiating was that bad. Seattle lost the game on their own.

I agree. There were a few calls such as this one and the 'Holding' call where the commentators were going "w t f" but other than that they seemed to mostly agree with the calls on the field.

I couldn't really care less I just wanted to see a decent game and I didn't. Just means we are a day closer to the NFL draft.

The NFL is not a sport anymore, its a business, its all about the money....You really could tell during the game... enough said.

oh and for the record would you guys really be saying the same thing if it was your team? I know I would still have the same opinion, but I would be more pissed off.
