I think it's a combination of all three.
It's no secret that these athletes have been taking steroids. If anyone remembers Bond from his Pittsburgh days compared to recent years then there's no arguing this. It's just mainstream now and the media are feeding off the controversial story like the blood suckers they are. They are making too big a deal out of the whole thing like everyone should be surprised it happened. If you didn’t get the hint that steroids may have had a big part in the bash-brothers overnight stardom then you’ve been living under a rock in regards to sports and MLB.
At the same time I think someone need to tell him to quit being a *****. You have to assume that as a major athlete, there's already a level of egotistical *****iness by default. Come on... we’re talking about Bonds here. We shouldn't feel sorry for him either. You did something that was wrong so now do something about it. Make a heartfelt statement like McGwire by vowing to educate against steroid abuse and carry-on with your life and what’s left of your salvaged career.

Despite Bonds case (though I side with him), popular media sucks these days. They don't report **** anymore. Just make stuff up and run with it.
Media hype will kill America if we don't kill it first.

Bonds has been one of the only public figures to stand up over many years against media intrusion. You may not like his ego or his fame, but the guy tells it like it is and like it should be with respect to the media.
And he is right, who are they going to pick on now?

My problem with bonds is that when you do see him on camera it seems like he never has any thing positive to say at all(wich also could be caused by biased editers), and seems to pick on the reporters, who sometimes do actually ask valid questions. And regardless of the question asked, tries to spin the question in a totally irrelevant direction and somehow say something unfavorable about the interviewer. The guy needs to get over himself, he lies about roids, and gets pissed if someone questions him about it. Imo the guy has very little integrity and a very huge head.
I have to vote: D... all of the above.

I don't really think the media has "picked" on Barry any worse than any other big star. Of course they're gonna dig, and report any dirt they find... he's famous, and the general public (for some reason) has a hard-on for seeing famous people's problems. How else do you explain all the reality TV and shows like Entertainment Tonight?
Plus, Barry's been a pretty big dick to the media over the years... I don't see why he should expect to get a break from them.
As far as the steroid use... I still contend that steriods or not, Barry's one of the best people to ever play the game. I would even go so far as to say he's probably the best hitter in the history of baseball. True the steroids (if he did infact use them) would help turn some pop-outs into homeruns, but how often does Barry just barely hit one out? Barry hits the long-ball because he's got the best hand-eye coordination and fastest hands in the game. When he hits the ball out, it's gone, no doubt, 90% of the time, and he can hit every strike out at any given time, and he's got the ability to read strikes and ***** better than most. Those skills aren't improved through steroids, they're 100% talent and practice.
cliff notes: Barry's a dick to the media, and shouldn't expect them to give him a break because, steroids or not, he's the best hitter ever.
