Vets

Anyone in the area (especially Citrus Heights, Roseville, Rocklin) have a good vet they go/have gone to? Not only a good reliable vet but also cheap.

The pup we got had a slight limp on his front paw when we got him. Looked it over from paw all the way up his leg. Didnt see anything noticeable (stickers, twigs, cuts, ect). Well it seemed to go away a bit and he was doing better, but today its gotten worse. Hes yelped a couple times just walking around

Before he would limp slightly after getting up but after walking or running around he would seem fine so i thought it might be a muscle thing...

I called the Sac and Placer County SPCA and they do not offer "check ups" or anything like that. Just adoption, rescue, neuter services.

So any ideas would help, idk if some places dont take big dogs or if most welcome all animals. The dogs a Pitt and almost 5 months, but hes huge . Help the poor college student

Sorry dude, I hope you're not serious. You took this dog in part of what you assumed was the responsibility of this dogs well being. You gotta buck up. When ish goes down it costs a pretty penny. Might want to see about insurance.

I know that. But yes, I am a college student, yes money it tight. Im still really worried about the dog, its not like im just going to neglect the dog and tell him to walk it off. Yes we have thought about looking into insurance as well.

Vets gonna run you about $35-60 for a visit. If he need surgery it's gonna cost. Look for a fox tail between his toes or in the pads of his feet. They get crammed in there really deep.

If we can find a place local for only $30 or something close to that, completely doable.

Yea ive taken a pretty good look at his paw. When hes laying down ive even taken it and started squeezing it to apply pressure. Continued to apply pressure to a fair amount and he didnt try to pull his paw back or cry in any way. So that makes me think its something with his leg

We used to go here when I lived in Citrus Heights:

VCA Greenback Animal Hospital
8311 Greenback Ln,
Fair Oaks, CA 95628
(916) 725-1541

Probably not going to be less than $30 though, but it does not hurt to give them a call...

Good luck, you may even see the doctor in the wing added on to their hospital from our past billings. We had 2 major knee reconstruction surgeries done on our previous black lab there...

Well turns out he is older than we thought.. hes almost 8months. 47.9lbs.

One of three things could be wrong. In order of likelihood:
1) Just a muscle strain in his shoulder from playing hard
2) Small piece of torn cartilage between his joints
3) Small fracture of his shoulder

So will all the shots, xrays, meds they wanted to give him it was going to be $500-$600..

So for now we got his blood tested for heart worms and they gave him some anti inflammatory pills. Told us to keep him super still and give him the pills for the next two weeks and hopefully it was just a strain and he'll be good as new then.
Gave us a prescription for heart worm meds and told us the shots we should get him (nurse told us of a few places that we can get all that at for cheaper).

So hope things clear up and he's good as new in a couple weeks
