2) A more sensitive test is to measure expired hydrogen gas after drinking milk. Significant elevation of hydrogen gas is evidence that you have trouble digesting lactose. The gas, which is produced by bacteria in the large intestine reacting with the milk sugar, will increase when you don't have enough lactase enzyme to break down the lactose.
