A quick observation

Had an old gift card for Sports Authority so I went in there yesterday for some fishing and camping stuff. Man has that place gone to the dogs. (haven't been there in years). I remember when that place had a good selection of the latest stuff in outdoor and fishing gear. Now it's a glorified Big 5 with little to nothing in stock. I even zipped down to the Arden store and they had the exact same set-up. Looks like i'll be sticking to Sports Chalet, REI and Sportsman's and Fisherman's Warehouse from now on.

11:30 AM: Arrive at REI
11:35 AM: Grab Sleeping bag off shelf and unwrap
11:37 AM: Quietly sneak into one of the display tents and set up your
sleeping bag
12:30 PM: Wake up and go back to work!

I'm glad I don't work there, I would get fired in a second!

You don't have a Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops around? I know it's a chain but I've found the service and selection in those places is second to none.

People always talk trash about blowing money at REI but it's because they have good equipment that does what you need it to. Good equipment that does what you need it to is not cheap. F big-five, sports authority, et al.

Been to both but we don't have one in the area. I heard a rumor they plan on opening one in Reno.

Totally agree, I don't spare any expenses on my fishing equipment. Sucked I had to buy all new stuff after Katrina.

Either do I! G-Loomis and Shimano mostly. Sent a couple rods back over the years and they've replaced them no questions asked. Luckily Fisherman's warehouse in Sacramento offers and ton of them. I did buy a 7' shimano with that sports authority giftcard... it was the best rod they had at $19.99. Whatever... :
