Live in NorCal - Blizzaks for Tahoe runs? or All-Season?

Hey Guys, I'm new to the STi community and wanted to get some opinions on running Blizzaks for Tahoe runs.

I try and get up to Tahoe 3-4 times a month from November - April for skiing/boarding. I have alot of experience driving in the snow and I know how bad snow storms can be in the Sierra (2 winters of daily driving in south lake tahoe and kirkwood).

What are your opinions on running snow tires vs All-Season/M+S Tires? Most of my driving will still be commuting from Roseville to Sac and hitting up Tahoe on weekends or for night boarding.

Thanks for you input!

I went all last season on all seasons and it made it fine through everything except when it got really deep. This season i have winter wheels and blizzaks!

I think all seasons are just fine. But on the other hand if i had another set of rims I would be running blizzaks and some sticky tires.

Only all seasons I'd rock in Tahoe are the dws, about the best traction u can get! Bet snow tires are amazing! I have a set

just run all season, all season. Thread life is longer and they are more quieter than snow tires. I have gotten an extra set of Blizzaks before, and i barely used them. I ended up selling them.

If the conditions are that bad while going to tahoe, caltrans will close the road down anyways.

Dws for sure. Had blizzaks and they weren't with it. Great in the snow but not great in Sacramento.

I have Blizzaks and DWS and have been in deep snow on both. They are both an excellent choice for snow. However I would not run Blizzaks when not on snow so you are paying to store them and only use them 3-4 times a year. If you are OK with that they will out perform the DWS in snow significantly.

Don't forget to carry cables too!

Edit: Just noticed you said 3-4 times a month, not a year. I would choose the Blizzaks if trying to go that often although they don't have the best tread life. So its a trade off. Shorter life but better performance.

Hey Guys thanks for all the comments, it seems that it's pretty equally split between Good All-Season Tires & Snow Tires.

Unfortunately, this makes it more difficult to decide.
Thanks for the recommendations on Continental DWS, I'll check em' out.

If you live in Roseville go with dws. I'm in Folsom and burnt through blizzaks and barely was able to use them in the snow. You can kiss "spirited driving" away with blizzaks. Blizzaks are great if you live in Tahoe.

I say go with the dws. I've been using them for almost 4 years now. They work very well in the snow and the mud. I got about 30k out of my last set and I was far from nice to them.
