I think I may get a red light ticket.
So, has anyone gotten nailed on the intersections on Watt with the cameras?
Here is what happened to me just now at the intersection of Watt and Fair Oaks. Anyone who knows that intersection knows it sucks. The speed limit is 45mph. I don't know exactly how fast I was going, but I was not keeping pace with traffic. I was going a bit slower.
-three lanes merge down to two right after the intersection
-awkward Arco driveway on the corner
-busy shopping center driveway right after the Arco
I was traveling in the middle (#2) lane, white(?) pickup truck in front of me, silver Honda Civic in the right (#3) lane. It was raining and roads were very wet.
The signal changed to yellow and I determined that I did not have enough room to safely come to a stop before the intersection.
Just before or as I was entering the intersection 3 things happened that caused the cars in front of me to come nearly to a stop and forced me to slow down in the intersection.
A car from either Fair Oaks turning right onto Watt, or in the right (#3) lane slowed abruptly and pulled into the awkward driveway of the Arco on the corner.
This caused the silver Honda Civic in the right (#3) lane to have difficulty merging with the white(?) pickup truck in the middle (#2) lane
The white truck then cut across in front of the Civic and turned into the next driveway past the Arco.
This confluence of weird merging and cars exiting the roadway forced me to slow in the intersection and thus prevented me from exiting the intersection before the signal light turned red. My front bumper was at the crosswalk when it turned to red.
If I end up getting a ticket in the mail, do you think I have a case against it?
The sign says it's a ****ing $426 ticket.

I didn't even know till I got the ticket in the mail. I just paid the fine. These things are hard to fight. You'll know if you have a chance when you see the video (thats even if you get at ticket). Yup, video!!! lol

er.. as far as I know, its entering the intersection, not exiting.
If you were in the intersection before the light turned red, then you should be fine. you CAN get a ticket for what happened, but that would be for blocking the intersection, but the red light cameras would not catch you for that.

What Xevious said. It's only supposed to be if you enter on red. If you entered on yellow (be honest), then you should be fine, as it's the trigger for crossing that line, not being there afterwards. Blocking traffic in that situation would be something I'd fight, as it was clear when entering and another motorist's actions required you to take evasive action AFTER entering the intersection.

I determined that I could not safely stop in the distance I was allowed and that there would be time to exit the intersection. Not until I was just entering or just before, did I realize I could not exit the intersection before the red. By that time, there was no way in hell I could have stopped before the intersection.
I did not see a flash. I have seen a flash during the day when other people run it. I hope that means I am safe.

You should be fine. I've seen it trip, and you see it if you break the line, because it's supposed to get a picture of your face - otherwise, they can't prove you were the driver.
