I hate wireless networking.

dammit, one of you guys explain to me why my wireless card is only getting 2 ****ING MINUTE leases for my connection. Last Friday they were screwing around with our router and crap, the network was down here most of the day Now I can't get a stable connection. Last week I would walk in the door and have an instant, permanent connection. Oh, and our wireless access is completely open and unencrypted. Could that be part of it?

Is there a cordless land line phone near by? Sometimes those cordless phones cause static with WLANS.

are you using the windows drivers for the wireless networking, or third party drivers? the windows stuff blows chunks.

No wireless things near my desk or the router (I think). I'm using the drivers that work for my wireless card, but windows is configuring the connection. I know it's not the best but I didn't have any issues here until today. It's almost exactly like the problems I used to have at Teh Hilton back in the day, if you're listening Scott. Back then I used to get 5 minute leases for whatever reason.

have you done a ipconfig /release /renew or try reconnected to the Access point.

I can take a look the next time you come down. Let me know.

I don't speak computer. And next time I come down, I won't be on my wireless network at work will I? Let's try some solutions that might actually work while I'm here.

Lemme try some more specific descriptions: there's no issue with my signal. I am obviously on the network long enough to post; it just boots me and forces me to reconnect every 2 minutes give or take. So, obviously it has all the right IPs and whatnot. But why won't it get a permanent lease on my connection?

Can you ask the person who configures the wireless network? None of us have access to your computer or the router, nor do we know the configuration, and you're saying this all happened after someone was making changes last Friday. Seems likely that the changes borked it, and the best person to resolve the problem for you is whoever made the changes.

I don't think you're losing your lease, unless the router changes modified how long an IP can be assigned to a client. Are you the only one in your office having this issue?

This is likely some kind of connection issue brought on by configuration changes and your connection is dropping for some reason.

BAN,

When you go to select your wireless connection under view wireless and then click connect, make sure the ("IEE" cant remember the full name right now) check box is unchecked. Let me know if that works. I have a few other things you can try to but thats the most frequent problem our users have at home.

PM me if you need any more answers....

Bob
