power gains should be as good if not better than any cat back exhaust

Hmm thanks for all the suggestions, although, I don't plan on removing my muffler or anything. Didn't expect diagrams of the exhaust system either!

I repeat. Don't remove the muffler. If all you want is sound, just disconnect the flange where the midpipe and axleback meet. If you want a little power and can sacrafice a little noise comfort, disconect the flange between the downpipe and midpipe. I have driven with the axleback disconnected for a month before I got an exhaust and it is not loud at all. No cop problems. Hell, I have driven with an open downpipe for a week and straight pipe for a little less than a month and still no cop problems.

How long does it take to disconnect either of those flanges? Do you wanna help me do this (I don't have any tools)? I've got a free lunch and maybe a "special" something included...

like 2 mins... the mid pipe to axle back would prolly be easier since its towards the back, but i suggest the down pipe to mid pipe... you can also just take the whole mid pipe off and leave the muffler on so you dont look suspicous :-)

Aren't you going to be down in BAIC for the next few weeks?

How easy is it to put the flange back on if I change my mind?

Does anyone with tools (preferably in the Orangevale area) wanna help me out this Saturday morning? Your payment will be a free lunch.

not difficult at all.. but the easiest thing would be just to undo the bolts holding it together.. youll get your beautiful boxer rumble with out taking any piping off

The boxer rumble with just the axleback disconnected sounds better than the midpipe disconnected IMO.

Hey thanks midnite and your friend (what's his name again? ) for helping take the midpipe off, it sounds awesome! And I've already gotten some of those looks you were talking about!
