Hey guys, where do I find housing in Davis near the campus?
Hey, I'm a 1st year, going to be 2nd year undergrad at UC Davis. I'm sure some of you do go to UCD, or atleast went there. I'm looking for housing for next year, and I'd Loooooooooove to find a house to live in. Most of the places near the campus are apartments and studios. I will be living with 5 other people, so I am looking for a 4 -5 bedroom house. Perferrably with a garage for the car. If no garage, I don't think I'll be bringing the car up, I can't leave it in the streets or open parking lot, i just can't =(. Anyways, I looked on Craigslist and they didn't have TOO many good results. Four bedroom homes are hard to find. I did find 2 post about people needing roommates in 4-5 br houses which is exactly the kind of house I'm looking for. Where do I go to find these houses, I looked at the newspaper and craigslist, anywher else? DO you guys know where any good places to rent? Since we have 5 people, the rent can be around 300-500 each so anything under 2,500 is good. THanks Sac area. I am from the bay and I share an 2005 STi with my brother.

Not to sure where to look, but I wouldn’t jump at the first one you see. I work for UCD and we just got a report out the other week that renting is really down. It is down something like 20%, so you should see rent prices going down here pretty soon too, but it will take some time to go into place. So I would look at a bunch and mention to landlords, well I found this at this cost, what can we work here, type of thing.
Check out the local newspaper in the classifieds, the Penney Saver, and free papers on campus or near coffee shops and such. You should also be able to log into your My UCD account and either post a message or read posts. I am sure there are posts for roommates and such. I have never check, because all I use My UCD for is accounting stuff, but I would assume there would be roommate/housing posts. My university had a section on its message board for that, there was also a database the housing office maintained that students could post rooms for rent or outside landlords could pay to post houses and such for rent. Maybe check with UCD’s housing department and see what resources they have.

Don't move into ParkSide Apts. I live there. :-(
Bad management. Bad apartments.
If you have a vehicle, you can live in Woodland and save a bundle of money. Just FYI....thats assuming you don't mind driving, and missing out a little on some of the experience of Davis....lol
I am trying get the job on campus as a student fire fighter now. That would be cool. :-) I am already an EMT, and fire control 1 certified :-P

We found a pretty nice house off Pole Line but its only a 3 bedroom and its not that close to campus. Finding a house within walking distance of campus generally means ridiculous prices and a really old run-down house that hasn't been taken care of at all. Atleast that's all I've seen so far. Good luck on the hunt!

Check out 1. Lyon real estate, 2. Arcadian properties, 3. California Aggie classified section. When i was a first year my friends and I found a 5 bedroom in south davis with a garage and huge backyard. It was like 500 a month each but not that close to campus. IMO you don't have to be close to campus, just take the bus anywhere, but im partial to the bus cause im a driver for unitrans. Good luck with the search

Thanks for the replies guys. I looked at the resources that the davis websites off like wiki and such, they were useful but there actually aren't a lot of postings for housings right now. My aunt told me there should be more postings in the summer as people move out and more people are looking for houses so I will check up on that later in the quarter. I also checked out those property management companies like Arcadian and Lyon but most of them are apartment based. THe classifies are good too except their abbreviation are hard to understand. Thanks for the heads up about the renting going down, hopefully i will find something good. EpisolonK, I would not mind living in a cool house in Woodland except some of my roommates won't be driving and I don't want them to have to live too far. I don't mind living that far away but it is inconvinient for my roommates who won't be driving. I actually don't think I'll mind not bringing the car up, I would be too worried anyways about door dings and vandalism. Unitrans is pretty cool, kind of dangerous to bike near them, but then again they have so many blindspots. I thkn it's great that students are driving them because in SF those muni drivers are pretty crazy, and these student drivers are pretty good at it. I don't think I can handle one of those buses though.
Thanks for all the help, if anyone is living in a 5 or 4 bR house with a garage and moving out, pm me =D. If not, I will keep looking at all those resources. Any other helpful tips is appreciated!
