HELP! my car is making noise!
dont know if this thread is in the right spot but oh well...
ok so my subie has been making sreeching noises alot lately. at first it was just when i was in reverse, then it was just when i was idleing, now its when im driving, idleing, and turning etc...i thought it was a belt, but i looked under the hood and the belt looked fine. i turned off the a/c and the noise stopped, so i guess it means the a/c compressor clutch that is right near the serpentine belt is whats causing the problem...so maybe its a bushing? im trying to avoid taking it in and getting overcharged for them to diagnose it then repair it when i already know what the problem is...but im wondering if i can just buy a bushing and have someone put it on for me? or does the whole thing have to be replaced?
i need air conditioning! its soooo hot! but i cant stand that screeching noise!
does anyone have any idea what i can do to fix it without spending hundreds of dollars? thank you so much for your help!

DBTuned is not just for tuning.
I do all service & repair work that your Subaru may need.
Please feel free to stop by & I will look at your car.
The A/C fix is either relatively cheap or god awful expensive.

Well, it sounds like the belt is lacking proper tension or the compressor is frozen; if you're comfortable with the wrenches, check tension first.
There should be about 3/8" of play on the belt, so if it feels excessive loosen the idler pulley (12mm box end) and tighten the 12mm bolt until the belt is kosher. Then just re-tighten the pulley and hopefully the noise will stop.
Otherwise its a more expensive problem with the compressor.
Goodluck!
