I would love to live downtown. Unfortunately, the houses down there are too old for me to want to buy one (wiring from the 30s? no thanks). The older houses are generally pretty small and have a lot of quirks, and if they've been redone they're expensive. I would like to get in on some of the new projects like all of the lofts and such, but they're really overpriced. I considered getting in on the towers project but their floorplans were all really weird and the costs to live there would be high (not to mention the other risks associated with living in a mixed-use property like the towers were going to be). For us, it's cheaper, less risky and easier to live in the burbs.
I'd still love to live down there though.
