If you swap a V8 of equal or newer model year into the car, it's perfectly legal provided it's in the same stock form that was available in some other car.

so if the engine in my car is smog legal in a 1991 isuzu impulse, how do I get it to pass smog in a 1990 Geo storm? I transfered everything over for the engine, including wiring harness and ecu... the only think not smog legal on the engine would be the BOV, and I have a stock one that would pass smog...

All you have to do is take it to the Smog referee. He'll inspect it and make sure it's still stock, and give you a certificate.

theres some older pics on my site www.kuleinc.com otherwise I can email you some newer ones, also where can I find this referee? I could sell my geo WAY easier if it passed smog lol, gonna do the STi GC8 thing when my 2.5RS engine gets tired so no longer need the geo... quite a fun car to drive...

"The Referee will charge a fee for the Smog Check inspections and services performed."

You will get a sticker for your door jam from the ref. This lets everyone know you're legit and what it is supposed to smoged as.

Tell the cop "BAR own3z j00!"

Does that mean if I get a sticker I can do whatever I wanted?

uh. what does that mean?

You can swap any engine that is in a vehicel that is currently CA legal into a car that is the same model year or older than the engine. All of the smog equipment has to come with the engine. Any parts you add to it have to have a CARB EO# for the engine. Then it has to pass the usual visual and sniffer tests. It passes you get a sticker. It doesn't pass you cry.

Once you're on your way you can do whatever is smog legal for the engine you have.

Try anyway. If you don't tell them you raised the CR and changed cams, they may not notice if it idles nice and docile.
