this reminds me of my over ambitious friends thinking they could bike down to san diego from here in not too much time. What a joke........

Tahoe would be horrible.

Maybe if you got a ride there and road home, you want to go down the mountain not up.

Ok, so maybe my plans were a little ambitious.. In my mind I don't think it would be that bad, but maybe I'm crazy.. or just stupid I found this route which looks pretty good, its a hwy80 ish route though and i've never gone that way. I know the hwy 50 route is really nice, how is hwy 80? http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united...ento/500396523

I think "a little ambitious" is "a little bit of an an understatement".

Two days?

uhh

The way I saw it is lets say its 100 miles to tahoe (hwy 50 route is about). And lets say I average 5 miles an hour (walking speed is 3 so I figure that is reasonable). If I go at 5 mph for 20 hours, that is 100 miles. So two, 10 hour days of cruising at 5 mph. I must not understand the effect of elevation. I just ride in the city really.

umm.... do not attempt this ride.

elevation is HUGE, for example, i recently did a time trial at 22mph for 19.2 miles. there is a hill by my house that has 400 feet of elevation gain in half a mile. it has me redlined, in my lowest gear, going 7mph. youre basically looking at doing a hard pro tour stage without any training. not gonna happen dude, sorry.

Okay, take the bike out of the equation.

Would you be able to walk at 3mph for ten hours a day for two days up 7000+ feet?
