Thumbs up FYI: Mather Field auto-x June 10 + 11!!! (more info inside)

The SCCA shriners Autox at Mather Field is coming up! June 10 + 11

Info: http://www.sfrscca.com/solo2/Sacramento/sacschd2006.htm

Its the ONLY auto-x in the Sacramento Area (Reno and Stockton are not exactly the Sacramento area ) all year.

A couple of us went last year and it was SUPER crowded, but it was only 1 day and there were what, 200+ cars out? Run groups of 50 cars and lots of re-starts made for a VERY long day... (I was in run group 2, didnt finish til like 2pm rather than before noon, and there werent any fun runs)

Hopefully it is better managed this year, I'll be going cause its so close (unless my transmission isnt back in the car on time, but it should be) and even if you dont race, its fun to come out and see what cars are racing

I think they've had a lot of problems finding a place to run regularly.

There used to be a group that regularly held events at Mather and usually had one or two per season over at Mclellan. Then 9/11 happened and all that went to pot (Furley didn't take it over, if that's what you're thinking). They started running at Cal Expo in the dirt lot where they usually have concerts and RV shows, but Cal Expo charged a ton and ended up booting the autox to use the space for more lucrative ventures (I think the lot is still empty right now). Just as well though, all the light poles in that lot made for some scary incidents. I was working course one day and directly in front of us a Cobra lost it on the back section of the course and missed one of those poles by < 5 ft. He had to change shorts after that run.

It seriously sucks that there are no auto-x events in Sacramento. Some members even tried a friendly takeover of the Sac chapter but that did not work. If I remember correctly, the Cal Expo people were claiming that they could make more money if they utilized the lot for parking then if they leased it to SCCA/American Auto-x/CSCC etc.
Last years event at Mather was a mess. Hopefully, this year will be better.

Also, there was a dude from Checkpoint who drove a pretty fast rx-7 powered mazda truck.

Cal-Expo isn't kidding; they made like $1200 from the CSCC autocross I attended a couple years ago. Parking gets them several times that much.

I believe it. Cal-Expo CSCC events were barely attended. I did not mind it then since that meant plenty of fun runs in other people's cars!

Mather Field is also about 2-3x longer course than the usual layout in Stockton

Car Info: The ladies wild
I guess I'm going to be attending this event, not sure if I'm going to drive though. I wish I had more time to setup my car Any advice for a first timer? I already read the little excerpt for pre-event preparation, just thought I'd ask. TIA!
