EJ22 Stroker

FYI i posted this in the NA forum But its pretty dead. Its been like a day and no response.

Eh doods i found a stroker kit for the EJ22 wich bumbs it up to 2.4L I was wandering if its a direct "swap" or do other components need to be upgraded or tweaked such as valve clearences?

uhhh i would just swap in a 2.5 shortblock. it bumps compression up and increases displacement to 2.5L. i can get you a shortlbock for like $150...you just need headgaskets and a good set of tools (including cherrypicker)

i wouldnt stick a 2.5 block into a 1.8 though. actually, i dont think that would physically fit.

If you are going to do anything to that 2.2, you should swap it to a 2.5, or go with a WRX swap. Stroking the 2.2 = too expensive for the gains.

like i said, sticking in the 2.5 block will not only bump the compression ratio but also add .3L of displacement. more than his stroker kit. thats more power from 2 different sources.

W3RD i hear yah! Im not feeling the stroker or the swap, just a thought. Im still planning on doing what i can to the 22. Even if its not much. Right now i found cams,intake/exhaust,lightned flywheel, pulley kit plus the manual swap.

For what you'll pay for everything versus the power gains you'll get, have some patience and put the cash in savings, and save up for a swap. Modding NA Subarus doesn't get you much, power-wise.

I know ^ Im purposely trying to be different though. Im more of an NA enthusiest, but i guess i picked the wrong car. But thats fine. I have been autoX'ing the L for a while and am happy with the EJ22 and see good poetential, torque band is awesome. I think the most gains i will get will be from the Manual swap & lightned flywheel, i think might lose torque though from the fly wheel though. But that wont be for a while any way, im just trying "to get my ducks in a row". I have even found some one willing to do the WRX swap for free if i get the motor. For the setup i think the biggest grip would be from the fly wheel @ $4-600. and the M/T which i have not priced yet. With a little help i could probably to the camshafts and pulley kit @ home.
