We had a chocolate lab like that. He would run into the creek and swim all around, but would NOT go in the pool. He would bark at his sister when she would be in the pool. The farthest he would get is the first step unless we dragged him in.

we've got 2 labs, we got both as 3 month old puppies. one was afraid of the water at first an the other one wasn't. we taught the one who was cool with it how to get in and out at the stairs since she was too little to drag herself out of the pool. she still, 4 years later, gets out at the stairs.

the other one fell in about a year later and decided she liked it. she leaps off the concrete and cannonball's right in and climbs out anywhere.

we had neighbors that had two dogs (different types but dont remember what kind) EVERY day when the owners would leave, the dogs would some how open the gate walk two blocks to the creek and go for a swim. they would be there for an hour or so then they would both go back home. they owners would get mad cuz everytime they came home the dogs were muddy
