This is why there are about 2 people that I will let drive my car.

What a shame

I knew EJ a little bit. He asked me to install his downpipe and reflash his car. When I got the phone call yesterday about this I was NUMB from devastation.

This is just so sad I have no words. Such a great guy, so friendly, so easy going. I don't know the other 2 people dead but I'm sure they were great people too..

So what happens now? Will Mark be facing criminal charges or what?

There was another article in the sac bee today about it... it says he could face vehicular manslaughter charges. I was thinking of taking a drive out there to show my respect, would anyone be interested in joining me? Maybe sunday?

I don't think that's the best idea. Cops will be all over you guys, even if you drive slow, and probably harass you for modifications.

I think he told me he just moved to Sacramento recently from Reno or Fresno ( I can't remember specifically which one he said).

He was a really crazy driver though. Even when he wasn't showing off or in a hurry. He gave me a ride home when my car (miata) blew the coolant hose in rancho cordova. He was going 110 down sunrise!!!! I started trippin real bad and told him to slow the heck down RIGHT NOW.

Yup...I live up there and cannot count the number of times I've seen cars & motorbikes wad it up on that road.
SFR requires 100% concentration even for locals that drive the road daily.

that really sucks. bunch of kids being kids.

recipe for disaster. That road is not friendly. off camber downhill turn. car driven by someone else (not familiar). driving too fast. 4 kids probably all just laughing and having fun (distracting) crap like this happens way to often.

Not only was he unfamiliar with the road, but also the car. He drives an sr20 swapped 240sx: a car COMPLETELY different from an sti.

I don't know how people EVER have the ***** to "borrow" someone elses car when driving down that sort of road at that sort of speed. You shouldn't drive that fast on that road anyhow, but to do it in SOMEONE ELSES car? wow

the roads up that way remind me of many european mountain roads. you have to pay attention at all times and you absolutely can not lose concentration or "see what your car can do" type of driving. there is a place and time for driving your car to the max; closed road courses, auto-x or rally courses.

my deepest condolences go out to the families of the lost ones.
