besides, why go after the manufacturers? new cars are far cleaner than older cars.
Why don't they sue PG&E, Calpine, and others for building and operating powerplants that contribute more to pollution and "global warming" than all of the cars in Kalifornia?

You're right, there isn't necessarily a correlation, but come on, I would really hope no conservative would support something as ridunkulous as this...yet liberals (most of whom are Democrats) will probably think this is a great idea. We'll see what happens.

Exactly, that's what's so ridiculous about the cel phone ban...almost ridiculous as banning all SUV's from the road.

I'm liberal, and I am aware of how retarded it is to blame pollution on automobile manufacturers, because I also know how economics work. It just annoys me every time I see someone say or do something stupid in politics, and people have to lump huge groups of people who have generally similar political views into the same short bus.

No, that's what's ridiculous about the "no hands on your phone ban." Banning cell phones would increase public safety; requiring hands-free ktis does not.

And we don't need to ban SUVs. We just need to smack everyone who owns one in the back of the head for being a douche.

Same reason it's stupid to sue GM over pollution; it's not their fault that we consumers are demanding these products in such numbers. the one good thing I keep hoping will come from conservative administrations is more nuclear power, and it keeps not happening. Increased domestic oil production is a much wiser course of action apparently...

Not quite. First off, GM only had 20% of FHI.

Then, 8%-9% was sold to Toyota the rest on the open market and between 4-5% was bought back by FHI. No other investor bought a significant numbers of shares.

The new Prius will use joint FHI and NEC battery technology, and Subaru engineers are busy desigining a new subcompact for Toyota. Other then that, engineering wise, not much else is public. There probably won't ever be platform sharing, but it looks like the engineering diciplines will cross over a little.

SIA (the North American Subaru plant) will start producing a lot of Camrys and potentially other Toyota vehicles in the near future.
