blew my transmission.. now i need some opinions...
i blew my first gear as have many others.... im 17 paying for everything on my car so im kind of cramped on money right now and i have just made some purchases, and i would like to save as much money possible, so i am going to install this myself.... anyways.. what im wondering is if i get an RA gear set, what else is needed to make it work on an 02 wrx... do i need to buy more parts or just buy the set and put them in place and then im good to go...
another option is to just buy a used transmission from a wrecking yard and putting it in myself...
or my last option is to look into going to an STi tranny and put it on my wrx.. when doing this conversion, what needs to be bought and what exactly needs to be done to make the 6spd work instead of the 5mt...
PLEASE i need as much info as i can get right now.. im really stressed.. i have no car, and i need to get this done asap!!

If you're paying for this all yourself, unless you have around $6-8k laying around, I'd skip on the 6MT. If you can find a WRX 5MT on the cheap, I'd do that. If you want to go for the RA gearset, and wait for parts, as well as paying for the install, I'd go that route. If you need your car back up and running ASAP, I'd look for a used 5MT.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Didn't you just get your clutch replaced? That sucks man.
Your car could always try the warranty route. Your car has a 5 year / 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. It may be worthwhile trying this first.

Car Info: This aint a bag. It's a shipment.
I'd get a used 5MT. Then when you get some cash get the RA set and take your time installing it in your old tranny. Then do the swap. Or save for a 6MT or a new STi.

Honestly, I think your best bet, ESPECIALLY with that clutch, is to pick up an transmission with the RA gearset already installed. Then you get the transmission installed and you should be set.

If i were you id call the dealership and see if they will cover it under warranty because they rebuilt my tranny the 1st time due to bad synchros and i only had the car for like a couple months if that, but the second time they considered it abuse and i bought a used tranny from Subaru Recycling off sunrise (916)638-5773 for $1500....its not going to get much better than that as far as used trannys...the sti tranny will cost about $6000-$7000 plus another $3000-$4000 to convert if someone does it for you

ouch
if the gears are blown off the shaft subaru wont cover it. the district opp manager has to aprove these kind of repairs. he is the man that says yes or no. most of the time it is no. so the dealer really cant make the decision.
