Abandon car

All I can find is the number to call to report an abandon car, I want to know how many days the car needs to be abandon before they will do anything about it.

Scott was helping me but he hasn’t responded in like an hour. He must be pretending to work or something like that.

Dont fail ne now Mr. Internet

72 hours. But CHP or local police have to go out and tag it (orange or green sticker on the window) its a warning that says if the vehicle is not moved at least a mile in three days it will be towed.

So you're saying you can "store" a car on the side of the freeway, as long as you move it one mile every 3 days?

well.... I can't find my CVC book. But under 22651 (k) I believe Thats the code3 about tagging it for 3 days on city street or highway. It might actually be a mile each day.

I used to have to play games with car owners that did that. I would get the compliant and tag the car for 3 days, and I would go back on the third day and it would be moved. Then get another complaint about it, tag it, 3 days later it would be moved again. Over and over again this went on until one of us got tired. (I never got tired cuz I thought it was fun, plus I was getting paid well to do it).

If the Registration is expired in excess of 6 months and is on a public street or highway the vehicle can be towed on the spot CVC 22650 (o). And also if the vehicle has two flat tires or is missing a battery or you can tell that it is inoperable 22669 (d) it also can be towed on the spot. Oh and if the vehicle is a hazard, such as up on jack stands and is on a public street or highway it can be towed on the spot.

I used to do this all day long when I was working for Vallejo PD.

I wasn't towing cars on the highway, but on city streets and well actually I guess actually Sonoma Blvd (HWY 29) and Marine World Pkwy (Hwy 37) are technically highways.

The CHP dude should be able to confirm, I've been out of that game for almost a year now so I don't know if any laws changed.

There is also CVC 22669 (a) which is strictly for being abandoned and you can physically see that the car has been there for a long time and looks abandoned, then it can be towed for that. I only used that for when I was ordered to tow a car from the chief or Captains. It was a liability for me as a part timer because it was only my word that said it was abandoned.
