I talked to Zev Barnett (manager) about some wheels (SSR), but they didn't seem special to me in any way. Especially sice Joe and FLAT4 have stepped up with some incentives- great prices and service. If you deal with Avalon, please let everyone know what they are like.
Thanks

I've delt with two local shops recently. There may be more, I just haven't found them yet.
I hate to be judgemental, but Zev struck me as somewhat flakey. I find nothing more anoying on the phone than the person on the other line conducting two simultaneous conversations... unprofessional. I don't know if that kind of thing makes him feel more important, but I took it as a waste of my time.
It seems to be mostly a one-man operation, but I could be wrong. I just know it is hard to get a hold of anyone, and there doesn't seem to be any regular hours.
Quoted labor for a directport chip install was $80. I don't care if it takes 30 minutes for the upload, it's not like he has to type the code in manually. Maybe figures like that are the norm, but it just seems a bit steep.
Oh... you can also expect to be charged for his time, basically listening to his sales pitches and slamming competitor products. Yep, you get to pay for it.
Anyway, I still got the parts I needed and moved on... got a chip elsewhere.
