GOTO:Racing Wins at Infineon

October 25, 2004
Scotts Valley CA -*GOTO:Racing Wins USTCC Round 12 at Infineon Raceway

Team GOTO Racing again joined USTCC this past weekend at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma CA. The first qualification was in rainy and very slick conditions but put the DMS/Santa Cruz Subaru WRX driven by Brian Lock in pole position! Brian said, “This car is awesome. It is very powerful and easy to drive. The DMS Struts provide absolute damping and keep all four wheels on the ground and putting all available power to the racecourse. The transmission, built by Santa Cruz Subaru, worked flawlessly throughout the weekend.

Sunday’s race started with the DMS/Santa Cruz Subaru WRX on pole for the normal USTCC standing start. The Subaru was able to launch into the lead and beat the pack in to treacherous turn 2. The DMS/Santa Cruz Subaru WRX maintained a healthy lead for 3 laps before a battle for the lead ensued with an out-of-class BMW and Acura RSX. The DMS/Santa Cruz Subaru WRX maintained supremacy over both cars with superior handling and braking for many laps but ultimately the BMW’s far superior power lead to an easy pass going into turn 11. Brian’s attention now turned to the Acura. Having a superior power-to-weight ratio the Acura was making ground in the straight-away’s but even in the now totally dry conditions, the DMS/Santa Cruz Subaru WRX’s all wheel drive combined with superior damping had it making up 4 to 5 car lengths in all of Infineon Raceway’s famous turns. At the checkered flag it was the DMS/Santa Cruz Subaru WRX taking the win.

Team GOTO Racing and Brian wish to thank Drummond Motor Sports, Subaru of Santa Cruz, Stop-Tech, Winchester Auto Scotts Valley and Aero-Turbine for their unwavering support and encouragement. Without these sponsors, racing at this level would not be possible. A special thanks to Santa Cruz Subaru for building a transmission that Brian called “awesome”.

About Team GOTO:Racing:
GOTO:Racing is a family owned racing team from Scotts Valley California. Currently racing in NASA’s Honda Challenge, Endurance and USTCC events.

GOTO:Racing is in it's 3rd year of road race competition in Northern California.* Along with building the fastest Hondas in the region, GOTO:Racing is the main suppliers of roll cages and safety fabrication to the Norcal Honda Challenge Series.* Now interested in moving upward from it's Grassroots origin, the team has set new goals for itself in Road Racing.* "As a business,*I’d like to see GOTO:Racing's work in more cars and series, and the quality of the work recognized.* This is already starting to happen, but having a car in USTCC is still a great way to gain exposure."* Says Co-Founder Chris Lock, "But in the end, we are racers, and our aspirations are more competitive then entrepreneurial. In the near future, I would like to continue the legacy Brian left, and dominate H4 in our new del Sol.* I also want to continue our success at NASA's 25 Hour enduro, and someday land the overall win.* Of course, we want Brian to win a USTCC Championship, and as for plans on the horizon,*I see us hitting a Speed World Challenge race or two next year, provided we can get the WRX up to speed.* If we continue to chance upon opportunity and exploit the talents of this team, who knows what we might accomplish."

Hi Brian,

Was that Gary's Sheehan's old car? Very nice car. You looked good out there. Glad to see things going well with your team, excellent work!

I was out in HPDE TT group in my street Blue STI (716) and managed a few 1:56.3xx lap times, but being in HPDE with a ton of traffic it was hard to get a full clear lap without being too agressive. The Yok A032R's are a good endurance/intermediate tire but not as good as a shaved Proxy (in the dry) and certainly not on par with a sticky Hoosier (in the dry).

I did finally figure out how to balance the STI (6 events later) which turned out to be a matter of just getting the right camber/toe settings front & rear (primarily toe).

I should have some video up shortly.

Cheers,

Rob Ainscough.

Rob -

I think I saw you out there Saturday...you looked VERY fast out there and your 1.56 is great....I was watching for the flame out of the tailpipe as you exited the front straight.

I was in the white STi in group 1/2....was a great day out there with 2 wet and 2 dry runs.

Yes it is Gary Sheehan's old car. We had some trouble with it the first race with a blown motor and tranny, but everything is fixed and going great. We are bringing in new sponsors all the time and things are looking promising for next season.

Brian,

Have fun in WC Touring -- glad they're letting turbo charged cars in next year -- should spice up the field some. The best race of the weekend at Laguna was from the WC Touring folks IMHO.

Alan, yes I believe I saw you on track -- where you having fun out there? How is the STI working for you?

I was hitting a few flames during shifts and rapid throttle motion -- running a Vishnu XEDE tune for 100 octane (switchable to 91 octane). I was actually over boosting a few times and had to reset the ECU -- need to go back to Vishnu and check the tune.

I was a good weekend with dry and wet, best of both worlds.

Yea, it was a great time for sure. First time at the track in this car as it has only 1500 miles on it. Definitely looking forward to more events in the future. The only thing I can't stand about the STi is the seats....i'm fixing that problem by getting a set of Recaro's.
