awd drifting

"the handbrake on the rear wheels is a destabiliser. i dont like it too much because it pitches the car into a slide without shifting much weight to the front wheels, and so in a highspeed drift can be unpredictable. However if youre about to go off the road , or of you have a tight corner and not enough speed or room to initiate a pendulum, then you can consider pulling the hand break.
if you have a hydraulic handbreak with a long lever, you can have a little more control. but its a blunt tool. note that awd cars with viscious center diffs (i.e. almost all of them) will not allow you to use the handbrake for the rear wheels only - the diff will lock and you'll be breaking all four wheels, but not with much force. you've been warned."

i say stop talking and start practicing it's a lot of fun on dirt - it's so easy you dont have to induce it with ebrake. besides, i'd never use the ebrake on WRX 5spd as it will mess up the center diff.

Now I am actually going to have to instruct all of you again how this is done!
First of all you Newbies have to relate this to your experience with your first minibike and then motorcycle!
When you appraoch the corner you first turn briefly towards the outside of the corner then quick bring the steering back to the inside corner that sets up the initial awkward off center slide mechanism. You then follow thru with the drift as you call it!
For Motorcycles it is the lean which this maneuver causes but with all wheel drive cars it is the drift or AWD Power Slides !
AWD Powerslides when accomplished are addicting.....

Now all those wicked first timers who thrill at Drifting Listen close You need to become one with your vehicle, that is learn all its little nuances. All those little twirks of lean and slide when you least expect it, make your self one with that motorized menace you now control. Fasten your seatbelt and push you limitations just a little bit farther each time you drive. Take your time as I have assimilated my experiences to about 30,000 miles to when I can say I have complete control of my chariot.
Where to practice your skills First thing I would do is watch others whether it be on Speed Channel of Pro Rally series of locally at your SCCA Pro Rally Event. Learn from the masters ask questions, talk with the drivers about there driving skills and where they learned how to? Remember this type of driving is not for beginners you will need some elementary understanding of how your car works to be able to push yourself into the realm of Potential Pro. Practicing your skill is best suited for the State Forest Roads, why because most people would never drive as fast as you want to in totalDarkness, thats right in the dark why in the dark because you can see oncoming headlights and the view outside your lights is not important. What you can see is all you need to maintain your postition on the road if you exceed the limitations of your roadway slow down. If you exceed the limitations of your ability slow down. Know the road, run over it at normal speeds before attempting to run at faster speeds. New ground is not meant for higher speeds, take your time. Learn and becareful that is how I am still alive to tell the rest of you how to play on gravel surfaces!
Your vehicles are awesome devices of raw power and energy, force and thrust of your cars can propel you faster and more delibrately then we could in years past, Ask Rod Millen his mission has become more controlled then before when you had to thrust your car into the edges of control to acheive what is now on the street and in your hands.
I like this Banana he has so much energy

i have 240sx and impreza.
240sx is far easier to drift but Impreza can still drift.
Keep the weight on front tires and give some rotation, tail will come out
Streets of Willow 3rd turn and the final turn are my favorite drift turns
this is not me but shows you how impreza can drift quite well
impreza drift vid, right click, save as

and would be willing to help you if you were interested in the drifting.
And yes i have seen wrx and some rs drift... i have also seen one slam right into the wall at Summit point Raceway in WV. Just use your head...
