auto-x rules.

what class is the sti in. I think it's a-stock. Does that mean I can't do any mods or can I do just tires. I want to move out of the novice class. Thanks any help would be great.

Actually, the STi fits best in ESP (Or street tire ESP if your region runs it). The pax was lower than A Stock this year, and should stay that way next year. Plus you get to whoop mustangs and camaros, and that's always a good time.

ESP also allows some useful mods; coilovers, sway bars, strut tops, wheels, most bushings, excluding ALK, exhaust, reflash (but boost map must remain unchanged) and some other things here and there but that's the bulk of it. An ESP-level STi was the fastest car on street tires on Sunday in Reno region's last autocross. And for the record, it's in A-stock, but like LagnWagn mentioned the ESP PAX is lower. Does your region have a street tire class?

Is this what allows the reflash?
14.9 Electrical System
Any ignition setting adjustment or system may be used.

Would coilovers put you in ESP being?
13.5 Shock Absorbers
The make of shock absorber may be substituted
http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/Rules/stock.html#s135

I am changing to coilovers in my STI. I think I would like to stay in A stock but if the coilovers bump me up then more speed would be nice, especially for track days.

Thanks,
John

Any spring mods at all bump you out of stock. You could go to STU or ESP. There's really no reason to go to STU since the rules for ESP are very similar and the Pax is lower (when you factor in race tires). Reflashes are legal in both classes as long as there are no changes made to the boost map.

And if you're in it for the fun of it, you can run wider than 245 tires in ESP (STU Limited)

Is STU street touring?
If so then I would need run the stock size.
14.3. TIRES
Tires up to and including a width of 225.

What is PAX?

In ESP is only a reflash without boost map alteration allowed or can you run a piggyback?

So with a reflash and a catless downpipe running 235s and some bushings, shifter, diff, engine and tranny, would I be fine in ESP?

STU is street touring unlimited, I believe.

PAX is the multiplier used to "level the playing field" between cars in different classes. It's only used for regional events, and it allows you to compete directly against every other driver at the event, not just your own class.
STU falls under Street Touring rules, but you'd be allowed up to 245s. You can do pretty much whatever you want engine management-wise, as fuel/spark changes are unlimited, but you can't alter boost in any way. You can do engine mounts, but not tranny or diff mount bushings. Those put you in SM.
