Rim Of The World Pro Rally 2003
Hello Rim Of The World Supporters!,
It is that time again for Rim! We would like to invite you to help us on this year's event, which will take place May 2-3, 2003. This year again we welcome Subaru Western Region as our PRESENTING sponsor. They are very determined to make Rim a really good show this year as I say again....get ready for a fun time for the workers.
Also, we would like to invite all I-Club's to come as a whole group to work the event. If you have a banner we can put that up to showcase your club helping out at Rim.
So we need lots of dedicated workers this year then ever before! If you have friends that would like to help...get in contact with them and e-mail me and I will get them set-up. There are some exciting changes this year. We will be using the Pelona Vista Soccer field in the City of Palmdale to showcase this event on Friday and Saturday with both starts of each day, plus vendors and possible Subaru/Mitsubishi car club shows. Also the hoopla- finish on Saturday night. Don't worry you should be able to see this part sometime on either day, and work the event as well.
My husband and I will be giving worker training classes (2) to get you newbiesand oldbies ready to enjoy the worker fun.
DO NOTE THIS IS THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF RIM SO THERE WILL BE A SPECIAL T-SHIRT COMMERATING THIS MILESTONE!
SO CONTACT ME VIA E-MAIL @ marymountdenise@aol.com or contact me at 562-860-9861, or through this thread.
Thank-you for your support!
I want to hear from those car-clubs!

Alex,
If you could get a bunch of your car club guys/gals together and work as a group on our Pelona Vista project and we need bunch of guys/gals helping out as a spectator marshalls. You can have the group work together on the same stages. Contact me via e-mail and we can see what we can do to help each other. When will you have a car club meeting...we can come out and speak to your group if possible?

Might be fun. Count me in Alex!
That was a blast last year. Just don't wake me up too early if I have too much vodka the night before!
C'mon where is everybody else?
-Joe
PS: Shouldn't this be a sticky?

Could you guys e-mail me as soon as possible or better yet go onto the www.rimoftheworldrally.com and register online regarding what you would like to do.
Note there is going to be a big showing of Subaru's there this year with the car show and lots of other things as well. I think the EVO's guys are coming. So it is shaping up to be a great event. I am hoping to get the Ford Focus guys there as well.
Also we are open for a 80 car entry again this year.
So just e-mail me guys and gals or register on-line at the Rim website. Thanks again for your support.

Pictures of some of the event - No action shots (read post to see why)
Hi all,
I went to the RIM OF THE WORLD rally (2003) and had an interesting time. I left my camera at the hotel on Friday night and could just kick myself for that!=(
Saturday I brought my camera and got a bunch of shots of the Subaru car show...um I mean all the cars =). It was very windy at Pelona Park but it was nice and sunny. We decided to take off a little early to beat the crowds to the first spectator viewing point (SPUNKY). While we were driving up we had the pleasure of mostly empty roads that were being drenched as we were climbing the mountain. When we got to the dirt road we were stopped and told there was WRX and a 2wd Toyota Tacoma stuck so we would have to wait.....so we waited...and waited...and then saw some more trucks start heading up the hill because no one thought to block people from going up the hill while they were trying to get the WRX towed out....well...long story short a full size Dodge truck lost it's front wheel on the way up....and blocked the entire road for a few hours. When we found out that the road was blocked we decided to walk up on foot while my dad took the jeep back down to SD to meet some friends from out of town. We walked 2.3 miles, uphill, in the rain, with the wind blowing, and the temperature around the high 30's to low 40's......back of my legs soaked...and frozen....we found a good spot to sit and watch.................we reached the top around 1pm. Met a few other spectators and talked and ate some snacks (mmmm beef jerky good)...and stood/sat there for 3 1/2 hours and waited....while it got colder, continued to rain...and blow...and become more miserable then our lives had been ever before.....then the marshal tells us that the cars are a few hours behind schedule and they hadn't even started the previous stage....depressed and miserable we made the hard decision to head back down the hill. This time the road was even more muddy as the rain hadn't really let up....so now we were exhausted, cold, wet, sliding around....and bitter about not seeing a single rally car the entire time... We got to my lonely Altima, as most everyone had left already and we starting driving down the hill I of course was feeling the need to get my rally fix so I started driving more like a rally driver and less like a good citizen....when I see a white VW Golf on the side of the road....looking like he was waiting for me to go by so he could cross the road.....then....the ****er pulls into the road....SLOWLY....so then I had to put a stop to my fun....as he passed by...we all started to realize that the cars were finally starting the stage where we were waiting before.....even more depressed we drove to the taco bell on Palmdale Blvd and changed in to dry clothes. We headed to Denny’s to get some food and rest, and then headed home.
At least I did get some pictures of the car show portion....even though I have shaky hands and haven't used a camera in 10 years I think the pictures turned out OK, minus a few.
So check em out if you want to see the car show portion of the event.

I was one of the marshals working up there. Damn, we didn't get down there until 8:30 or so! It was freakin' cold and wet! After the sweeper car came by, we had to take all the damn banners down too! And the night before, I worked at Aliso caynon. From 6 to 2 in the morning! Boy, two night of standing in the rain and cold is not all that fun.. Thank God that I am not sick from it. I didn't even really get to see a whole lot Friday night. To top that off, some jack *** hit my car Friday night! Sorry it say, but it was some one that worked at the course or know people who worked there. Because I parked way back and only workers are allowed to drive and park there. **** sucks! now I have to pay because some jack ***!
but anyway, it was a great rally, and I wouldn't mind working at it again. but I rather drive it next time!

I have a high level of respect for you. I was so freaking miserable by the time I walked to the bottom of the hill I was questioning my sanity ever going up there.
Were you on the right or left hand side of the access road at the top of the hill? Also, what time did the first car fly through that area? I guess I just want to know if I should have stayed past 4:30...

if you face the course, I was at the right hand side. I think the first car went by around 5 or so. I was so damn cold, I can't even remember.
