Thumbs down Mitsubishi quits SCCA ProRally

Here's the link. I guess Subaru's a shoe-in for 2004. What's wrong with these manufacturers? I can understand Hyundai dropping out. No one would by a Hyundai because they saw it in a rally. But Mitsubishi actually benefits from the exposure.

The Company says it quitting the sport "to focus its resources on continuing to grow its brand and build retail sales."
that's crap. Mitsubishi needs to pull their collective heads out of their @$$. they're running commercials of the EVO here featuring rally footage for crying out loud! to pull out after winning both the Driver's and Manufacturer's title is such a punk move. Mitsubishi's brass that made this decision.

that's a good question. Higgins was a hired gun from the UK, and i'm sure he won't have trouble going back and finding a drive in the British Rally series. it'll suck to have only one real works effort next year.

any idea what Ford/USAF is going to do? are they pulling out with the retirement O'Neil?

Is Mitsu still slated to run the WRC for 2004? This is terrible news!

Some guys on NABISCO are calling Mitsubishi's financial troubles the cause for the exit from SCCA Pro Rally. Wow. I hope the world economy takes an upturn soon - motorsports is taking a big hit!

it would be nice if things would pick up a bit. it does strike me as a bit strange though, that budget would be what dragged Mitsubishi out of SCCA competition -- unless it was Mitsubishi USA that was funding the SCCA effort. lets face it, running a WRC team is way more expensive than an SCCA effort. hell, you could run a pretty strong SCCA team on what the WRC guys would think was a small travel budget.

unless they decided to concentrate effort/money/time on the WRC as opposed to the SCCA

Yeah - but I think Mitsu gets a lot more for it's money (return on investment if you will) for their efforts in WRC. I mean SCCA Pro Rally is of limited TV exposure to a few people (fans) that already know what the Evo is all about.

WRC is a technological/engineering tour de force on the world's playgrounds globetrotting the diamond star logo across the planet in search of all terrain dominance!

Errr, wow. Got a little PR/Marketing thing channeled there. Sorry.

The SCCA and WRC efforts are seperate. The SCCA rally thingy is run by Mitsu USA, and apparently they blew thier PR/marketing/advertising wad on 2 fast 2 furious, and thier sales have been crap.

AFAIK, the WRC effort (run by Mitsu corporate) is on track.
