Hey! Awesome Escort Cossie. It's too bad the domestic Escorts all sucked. Hopefully Ford will bring a Focus RS or Cosworth to the States to compete with the WRX, EVO, SRT-4, etc. I'm no Ford basher, because obviously they can build some awesome cars.

Hi folks,
I've not been on here for ages, selling the Scoob the main reason.
I saw this thread and it seemed a good enough reason to post again.
The RS200: what I remember from a few years back, some of which has no doubt been mentioned already:
200 were built to satisfy the group B regulations. About 10 built by Ford for development, the remaining 190 odd assembled by Reliant (famous for fibreglass 3 wheelers..).
It had the 1.8 BDT engine, approx 250 bhp in road trim, 380 in rally trim.
Gearbox is at the front for better weight distribution, and you can select 4wd or rear wheel drive on the move with the stubby lever beside the gear lever.
Ghia designed the body over a spaceframe chassis, and used windscreen and doors from the Sierra.
Evolution version developed with a 2.1 engine, which made approx 650 bhp. This is the version that held the 0-60 record for a while, something like 3.1 seconds.
I've sat in the ex-works car driven by Stig Blomqvist on the 86 RAC rally, sadly in a museum I used to work in, not moving. At the same time we had an ex-works 6R4 driven by Malcolm Wilson. Both owned by the same guy, lucky git.
After we'd shut for the night I'd reach speeds well over 120mph in the forest stages - what an imagination.
IIRC he paid approx £250k for the RS, the same sort of money would get you an ex works Focus today.
Where the RS200 was beautiful, the 6R4 was a beast. I still liked it since I drove an MG Metro at the time (don't laugh, I was only 17). The 6R4 was the only group B car IIRC to run normally aspirated, everything else was turboed. That 3.0 V6 engine was used in the XJ220 with a few mods.
After group B was stopped due to several deaths, these cars were used in Rallycross. Martin Schance (spelling?) in the RS and Will Gollop in the 6R4 are the 2 I remember. Will put 2 turbos onto the 6R4 for about 700bhp from 2.? litres - capacity reduced.
I haven't seen an RS in the flesh for ages, but you can still see 6R4s competing in the Scottish Rally championship, and they're up there with the Scooby's and Evos, not just making up the numbers.

BTW 2% of 200 cars would be 4, not 2
[/whisper mode...]
Mike.
Edited to say I'm not the junior/newbie my account suggests. I used to post on here about a year ago, but my account seemed to have vanished. Does this happen after a while?
