My canon 50D is having a auto focus issue that just started recently. What happens is the auto focus glitches and basically stutters. This causes it not to focus at all.

Is there something I can do to fix it or would a shop have to look into it?

Btw today in Vegas, I think my lens died. It wouldn't focus at all and then about 1 hour ago, the lens wouldn't retract at all but will move from the 24~170 mm range (lens is 18~200 mm). However when moving it from the 24~170 range it feels very sticky.
