Thinking of moving to OR, Pros/Cons?
Hey all,
Thinking of moving to Grants Pass, OR. Any input and help convincing the Fiance would be appreciated. Hows the job market? Currently I am A Security Guard, But I'm also in my 2nd year of an Automotive Technology degree.
BTW, by the time I get there (late 05/early 06) you should see a MY04 WRX in black with the following:
JIC FLT"s
17" OZ Superleggera's W/Pirelli P-zero's
Cusco bars
Cobb reflash
HKS turbo timer, Carbon Ti exhaust, and drop in filter
Various cooling bits and a few other mods as of yet to be determined
Anyhow, thanks, Mike

I think there is your answer! Just a bunch of plaid wearing lumberjacks and ex-Californians driving up real estate prices! I thought about moving up there but couldn't find a job that paid enough.

rain. depression. oh wait, that's if you live in Salem. Oregon can be a really pretty part of the country, i lived in Salem for a year while going to college. the rain and the lack of sunshine really got to me during the winter though. Grants Pass is far enough south of Salem that the weather might be more palatable, but it depends on where you're coming from. i'm from Silicon Valley, so it took some getting used to.

Don't feel bad about people NOT replying to your thread that live in Oregon. I posted a thread myself just giving a "what's up" and no one replied. dropkick and homer j are Californian Bay Area guys like me. Sorry all your answers had to come from a differant state, but here i go on Oregon.
The forests are beautiful, The coastline is beautiful. The people are nice "if you can get em to talk" And the Portland Trailblazers are my favorite NBA team. The city of Portland is great (with free public transit) but it's one of the few places in the state that serves good food. But coming from Wisconsin maybe you're not a picky as most Californians.
They also don't let you pump your own gas. (i like doing it myself)

Lived in Portland all my life, its a great city, I've really liked all oregon cities I've been to (most of them). Grants Pass I dont know much about, but Oregon as a whole is a good place to live. As far as job market, I dont think its too hot right now, but this too will pass. The best thing is there are a lot of subies
P.S. And as to HomerJay, shut up, I'm no lumber jack and I sure as hell have never worn plaid. We dont want your type up here anyway.

I'm no lumberjack, but I'm wearing a plaid flannel as I write this. Oh, well, it's too freakin' cold here, gotta stay warm somehow. Anyways, how do I like Oregon? During the summer, when it's warm and dry, it's nice. But the other 9-10 months of the year suck. When the weatherman forcasts rain, it's not for the next day, it's for the next week or more straight. And I hate rain. Oh, I also hate cold. And the job market here sucks, too. When I got laid off in 2001, it took me 11 months to find a job (first job out of school, so I was new to the field, which didn't help matters, since the tech industry is rough around here). And my wife has been out of work since March, and she has schooling and 5 years work experience as a legal secratary. As soon as I get the Subaru paid off (next summer), we plan on pulling up stakes and heading for the Las Vegas area; better weather, hardly any rain, and a beter job market. Oh, and I've been living in the Portland area since I was 1, so I'm no n00bie to the area, it's taken years to grow these feelings about the area. Some peole love it, and it is nice and green, but I just can't handle the cold rain any more. Grants Pass is a little drier, but it also gets cold and a lot of snow during the winter, so be ready for that. I have no idea what the job market/economy is like there, but right now, Oregon has the highest unemployment rate and one of the worst economies in the country. Something to think about.

Okay, Moderator, lock this one down and let it die! RtFooted is staying in Wisconsin. Any WRX owners feel like convincing a current Civic/future WRX owner to buy one sooner than Feb 05? A ride along would be nice if your in the Madison WI area, or I might make it down to the meet in Schaumberg sometime soon, the Fiance is an IKEA addict! lol

Nobody in Oregon is replying because none of us live in Grants Pass. Only driven through about 6 times. Didn't really see a need to live there.
Great mountain biking, fishing, skiing, and places to drive/ride. Grants Pass is not exactly where I'd choose to live though. More like Portland area, Bend, maybe Corvallis.
