Project Beater RS- Return of the Prodigal Mod
So after a year of, er, 'experimenting' with a certain small, nimble, and rather disrespected RWD roadster, I have come to my senses and returned to my Subaru roots. I must say, it is good to be back.
So, here it is: my second 2001 Subaru Impreza RS coupe.
And the good side:
So why is it a beater, you ask? Well, just a couple little, tiny, minor things, like this
And this
And this
And this
And this
Plus some other things that aren't visually obvious. When I bought it, the clutch was totally dead, it had multiple oil leaks, the driver's window is disconnected from the regulator and held up with a zip tie, and it has 168,000 miles! But all things considered, I got a great deal on this car. Fixing all this stuff (except the dent on the side- no intentions whatsoever of doing that ) will still come in below the wholesale value of the car.
So, first order of business was to get the clutch replaced so I could at least drive the car as needed. Also did a rear main seal and the separator plate, but there were more oil leaks still left.
ACT Streetlite flywheel, Exedy stage 1 clutch, and a few Kartboy goodies while all of that was apart.
The next mod after replacing the clutch is one you may have noticed- gold 17x7.5 SSR Type-Cs with some studded Nokkian Hakkapeliitta 2 snow tires. I had planned to just throw snows on the stock wheels, but I scored the 17" snows for free, so what the heck. However, I don't want to risk the precious SSRs on winter roads, so I have some SDRs in the works to go into harm's way until it's autocross season.
That about sums it up for now.

Since I'm going to daily drive this car for the foreseeable future, it needed a few creature comforts. So far, all that I have installed are my Valentine 1
Pioneer DEH-P8MP head unit and some other Pioneer speakers in the rear deck (speakers from previous owner)
Hella Supertones, of course
Hella 500s and Kartboy brackets
Also planning on some small but important things, like a WRX intermittent wiper stalk, trunk light, pink stars badge, STi key, etc.

Chassis/brakes:
Whiteline strut braces (yeah I know, they look like crap. Might paint them before installing.)
Turn In Concepts Klunk Killer (race) kit (pic courtesy TiC)
Kartboy front and rear shifter bushings and transmission crossmember bushings (pic courtesy TiC)
Stoptech braided steel brakelines
Still to come: Group N engine and dogbone mounts, DIY transmission mount, and a pimp Recaro SRD, along with a camlock, pull-up harness on my side and a Schroth Rallye 3 on the passenger side.

Suspension:
A little bare at the moment. Still haven't saved up enough for my ideal coilovers- KW Variant 3s.
Cusco RSB
That's basically it for now. Forthcoming are Whiteline endlinks, camber plates front and rear, and maybe a few group N bushings sprinkled about. I'm building the car to run SCCA Solo in the DSP class, so this is basically all I will be doing suspension-wise this year.

Well, that didn't take long... this is becoming a pattern. I got rear-ended on HWY 99 south of Chico on October 1st, car has been totalled. It's for sale for $2500, see norcal classifieds if you are interested.
Up next- hoping to find a good '96-'99 GF4. Wish m luck, both in finding it and not getting disintegrated in the next wreck.

Dam you just can't keep an RS around these days without some bozo playing destruction derby with their daily driver. Sorry to hear, seriously that sucks. G'luck with the next subie. 3rd times a charm!! don't give up!!
